While I don't yet have as many details as I would like, at some point the Zodiac wrote a letter to the chairman of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in California. The letter was authenticated, apparently via handwriting, and was kept quiet for reasons unknown.

I have mentioned this letter in chat but have waited to get permission from my source before starting a thread. My source is a high-ranking official within California law enforcement and is known by enough members here that his reliability is not in question.

The reason I have only lately been attempting to get permission from my source is because I just recently learned from victim Paul Stine's sister that Paul's wife at the time of his murder worked for the DMV.

I will post more details as they surface, and my source and I are working on just that.

Does this letter still exist? And if so, will it be posted soon?

If Zodiac wrote a letter to DMV, he had to sign it the Zodiac right ?I can't wait to see this one ,the city and the date on it ! It would be interesting to see, if it was written durring the yrs that Z was not writing to the news papers or police.I wonder just how many other Z letters are out there ?

No reason why we can't offer up our guesses as to what the letter was about, whether we eventually find out or not !!!So heres my shot in the dark. Unless it was concerning a particular person (Tom mentioned Paul Stines wife working at the DMV) I'm venturing that it was either to do with the Licensing and Registration of Taxis or School Buses. But I've been wrong before (MANY TIMES ABOUT MANY THINGS !!)

The DMV address in San Francisco in 1970 was :Department of Motor Vehicles (1970)1377 Fell St, San Francisco, CA 94117That is about 2000 feet from Paul Stines address:Paul Stine1842 Fell St, San Francisco, CAAnd the same distance to "Good Times" :Good Times "switchboard"1830 Fell St, San Francisco, CABut of course I don´t know if it was that particular DMV office the letter was sent to.

I cannot wait to see what comes out of this. Must be something pretty awesome for it NOT to be released. Thanks for the updates!
