(The original discussion thread about this new book had reached more than 1,100 posts, so today (June 19, 2014) I have decided to add several additional threads, including this one.)

Buried throughout the original thread about this new book (a thread now containing more than 1,100 posts) is some great information about the alleged handwriting match between the Zodiac and the subject of the book, "suspect" Earl Van Best jr.

I would ask those who contributed materials to the original thread, please post it here as well.

Claims of a handwriting match have been used to help sell the book, but all that glitters isn't gold, as this thread will show.

Buyer beware.

I'm totally with ya, Tom. The "kicker" is his use of the handwriting on the 1990 Christmas card envelope as a comparison. Umm... his father died in the mid 80's. Um, hellooooo!!!

Below is the Marriage Certificate of Earl Van Best Jr. and Judith Chandler.

It was said that EVB Jr. filled out this certificate and that this handwriting was (almost positively) that of Zodiac.   Mike99 looked into this further and discovered the handwriting was actually that of the Reverend Edward Fliger.  --See examples below.

Fliger's handwriting in a log book from the church:

Here is the Marriage License signed by Best.  Thanks to Morf.

Thanks to Tahoe27 for re-posting that info here, as the original discussion thread became too large to locate anything.

Hi-

The funny thing is that what I did was not rocket science by any means. It was just basic fact checking. How did this stuff get by everyone involved in putting this book together? Maybe Stewart was too busy in with his accountants or was afraid to look behind the curtain in Oz: He may have seen a priest pulling the levers, not EVB Jr.

It was very good of you to look in to the handwriting further Mike. Seems like something the handwriting analyst would have done prior to making his claim. Could have saved him a lot of embarrassment and possibly his career.

Any updates from Stewart's camp about this mess? Surely they know by now the handwriting they "matched" to the Zodiac belonged to someone other than Van Best jr.?

When I asked Stewart to comment on his website, he responded by saying he's leaving it up to the experts. By that, I take it he doesn't mean us.
