I don't understand why no one has even given any thought to the idea, that maybe who ever wrote the "Peek through the Pines card", wrote this new reward poster ? Maybe the Zodiac himself did it ! If he is becoming so stupid in his old age, by giving us his po box address in a card. After all he didn't know in 1990 that the card would be put in a drawer until now, and could be traced even easier back in 90. Then why not stir up the pot and do this ? Harvey Hines hasn't anything to gain by making a new wanted poster, he probably didn't even know that the area code has changed sense he was there last. Howard where are you ?
That's an intriguing idea, Sandy! Especially since the (brilliantly) decoded message (see earlier in the thread) clearly reads, "Beware, I am stalking you... Donna Lass." That sounds like it comes from Zodiac to Donna. It certainly isn't from Donna to Zodiac. At first I thought it could be from her angry family, or whoever was offering the reward.. but then why not say, "Beware, Zodiac, I'm stalking you."?Were these found hung up around Tahoe? Sent in the mail? I think you could be onto something.

Maybe the Zodiac himself [wrote the reward poster]
It's an interesting possibility that the poster and cipher could be the work of the Zodiac. Warren's observation that the content of the coded message closely resembles a line in a possible Zodiac communication ("Beware...I am stalking your girls now.") is suggestive. Not only that, but the mistake in the coded message is of the same type that was made throughout the previously decoded 3-part cipher.I too would be interested in a little more background information on the reward poster.

The area code changed in '97 (thx Seagull)..was that around the time Hines was here last? I was thinking it must have been Hines and her family who came up with it, but now wonder??

I am posting a comparison of the writing in the 3-part cipher with the writing on the Lass reward poster. For most of the letters/symbols I think there is a fairly high degree of similarity (in my un-expert opinion). There is, however, a notable difference betweent the "Y"s (I did not include images of these).Note: The item on the left in each pair is from the 3-part cipher; the item on the right is from the Lass reward poster.====

I believe I received the poster from Howard. Not sure where he found it...

Howard--any idea when it was created and if/when it was circulated?

If it was created by her family, why did they include the weird message, "Beware, I am stalking you... Donna Lass?" That sounds like a threat to Donna. Can her family confirm the decoded message? Who's phone number was on the poster? Was it supposed to look like an old poster? Did they tell you it was from the 70's? Can they explain how it has a phone number from the late 90's??

Perhaps they meant it as a taunt to Z, tyring to provoke him into interacting with the media/LE, as in:[Dear Zodiac,][This is your victim speaking.] Beware, I am stalking you.... [Sincerely,] Donna Lass

I thought about that, maybe it was written as if Donna was signing it. But the poster is seeking Donna's recovery, and if Zodiac didn't take her, why should he care or decode the message? It's obvious that she's missing and presumedly at the hand of another perp. If Zodiac DID kill her, then why would he be afraid if Donna Lass is threatening to stalk him? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to say, "I'll get you back, Zodiac", or something? Also, though it's not explicit, the poster sounds like the crime was recent. It says that family and LE have made great progress and hope to "finalize" the prosecution. Even though it lists the date of the crime, 1970, it doesn't sound like it's referring to a cold case that's 37 years old.If Donna's family did make this, they can clear up the confusion in a moment, but if they didn't... then something seriously weird's afoot.
