On the old David Copperfield board there was discussion about a cab driver in S.F.,one Charles Jarman, 28 that may have been a Z victim.Det.Armstrong ,at the time,(Jan.'70)expressed reservation that Jarman was slain by Z,but did acknowledge that there were some similarities,to Stine's murder. Both men were killed a few blocks away from each other. Both were Yellow Cab drivers and both had been shot behind the right ear.Researching this further I found the scenario that led to Jarman's death started in Pendleton,OR.in 1969.A mechanic by the name of Robert Bromell,21 deserted his young wife and 6 mo.old infant daughter to go to S.F. to locate work.He had a criminal record. After searching he was finally forced to take a busboy position in the nancial District. He met Anita Runyon, and the two shared a place in the Tenderloin District. After constant "nagging"about getting more money, according to Robert,he decided to go for the Mother Load and rob a cabbie!Jarman, who was also a special policeman in Daly City, picked Bromell up.Robert claims he "showed" his .22 weapon to Jarman and demanded money, but "lunged "at Robert,so he and Jarman fought so the gun went off with a contact wound behind Jarman's right ear! So,Bromell took the driver's wallet with 27$,ran towards the Tenderloin area, threw the gun in a storm drain and tossed the wallet that had contained the reserves at Fort Knox into some shrubs!I will continue later...

Good show, Howard, good show! Let us know what else you have on this. Good research. Definitely helps the inquiring mind to know that this was not a Zodiac murder. I had heard it was solved before, but this would be pretty solid in confirming it.

We will leave self-confessed Robert Bromell(or two m's?).If someone wants a project then track him down.Probably got a short sentence(like one cab killer-he got two years from a SF court!!!)and as Tom says,a mint!Look what Officer Zelms' killers got- some 7/8 years from the N SF CA justice system.Too liberal. If there be any inspiration and good that came from Charles B.Jarman's death was that his 9 month pregant widow Isabel-against family opposition-donated Jarman's kidneys. One man,mr. Beck,38. had to be on a machine 10 hours a day three times a week!He said he had been sick for 15 years, but now he is well and was planning to return to work. Thomas Labelle,16,had been on a kidney machine since birth 6 hours a day three times a week.He said he now feels "great"and would be going to school. As to Jarman's character,as opposed to his killer,Isabel said,"My husband would give the shirt off his back to someone else-the food that he eats-and I know he is happy."Thought I would bring in some human interest and that fact that Charles,a good man, did not die in vain.It is interesting that the widow mentioned a shirt,as a stack of laundered shirts was found at a distance from the Jarman cab. Some thought it was some kind of message from the killer, even Z.My best guess is they were Jarman's and the killer grabbed the stack, but as he fled he left them and later tossed the gun, etc.

grey,Give me a middle name and age. This headline appeared in The Daily Review Nov. 6,1972:"Cabbie murdered in Zodiac style."It goes on to say that Leroy Nelson Moses,30 took a call from his cab company to pick up a fare that requested they send someone fast as he had to go to work.Moses was later found slumped over his wheel dead.It was later found that an unemployed black man Leroy Eugene Neal,22 was the killer and was given life. His first parole was to be in seven years(with a case of Voigt mints!).One of the things that help conviced Neal was his print which was found on the window of the cab!

Maybe Zodiac's disguise was being white. Zodiac mentions a black man, the SF report was originaly a black man and now this cabbie killer? Now THAT would be "ENTIRELY" different.Kidding of course. Sorry to get off track.

grey g,I read about Clancy some time back, but he was a robber, so I didn't make the connection(sorry!) here as we are addressing him now as a cab driver, which is an error. It would seem the cab driver list needs to reflect and change this incorrect info.Yellow Cab driver and Special policeman George A.Alexander,41 picked up a fare-one Gerald M.Clancy,29 on 1/27/70 at Polk and Austin and took him to Gough between Fulton and McAliester Sts.and pulled over at the request of Clancy about 6:30 PM.C pulled a 6 inch knife and demanded A's money clip which held a whooping 9!C then cut the radio cord and leaped out of the cab.A shot his .38 twice in the air as a warning shouting for C to stop, but he kept running so A shot him in the head about 40 feet from the cab.One of the so called "Two Greeks"Inspector Gus Coreris, said that Clancy"...does not answer the description of the mysterious Zodiac killer."

g,You are most welcome.I think that one of the reasons Z killed a cab driver during his reign of terror, was that after the Paul Stine murder any taxi driver killed in the line of duty could be a Z attack.Going through all of the taxi driver homicides we can see that some were suspected Z murders, which ,of course always proved untrue. As he said in one of his cards ,"PS I hope you have fun trying to figgure out who I killed."
