Thought I would post some pictures of the original Phillips 66 map. This map is 1969 - '68 & '70 are different. This is the back side. The Phillips 66 symbol is in the top center. Interesting to note Lake Tahoe is on the back, as well as Lompoc.

Here are some newer scans. There has been some speculation on other sites about the map Zodiac used. My intention is to post what I am pretty darn sure is the correct map.As you can see by comparing it to the high def version on Tom's site:http://zodiackiller.com/PMHR.htmlThe section Zodiac mailed in is 8" x 6 3/4". It has it's own unique code at the bottom: 9-QQ-1219-S. The entire map is 18 3/4" x 34" - A thru H, 1 thru 18Front side: Backside--Zodiac's section in redAnd thanks to "Zac" & "Nin" for noticing and posting about the bleed-through of the "Phillips 66" symbol. Again easily noticed here: http://zodiackiller.com/PMHR.htmlBackside of the SF insert with the Phillips 66 symbol:

By the way, those red dots are not unique to Zodiac's map.

Yes. Thanks, Tom, for confirming that. I had thought they were part of the map too, but was not 100 % sure.

Red dots- the gas station locations ? They're Phillips 66 symbols if I'm looking at the correct ones.

I believe they are mileage "markers" and alongside the road as illustrated on the map is a figure e.g. 12.6 which is the distance along that road between the two red dots. Most maps use that idea or similar even these days. (Of course maps and routes generated by mapquest etc obviate the need for a map for many people mores the pity).I have loved maps since I was a schoolboy. Prefer "reading" them to a book sometimes !!!

The 12.6 miles I mentioned is the distance along Franklin Canyon Road (California State Highway 4) between the junctions with I-80 and I-680.
