I won't bash you Haley, but I'm one who is not confident Zodiac sent this card. There are a couple of threads about it.

Next you will most likely find posts about Morrill confirming this as Zodiac's work.

It is an interesting observation nonetheless.

Haley,

The Halloween Card has always intrigued me. You have an interesting theory. The skeleton's pose is that way perhaps for a reason, but I am not so sure that Zodiac wanted to give us his name. He said that he wasn't going to tell the authorities his name because he didn't want them to slow down his collecting of slaves for the afterlife.

But your theory does raise a very interesting question: Why are the skeleton's legs bent backwards like that?

Maybe the skeleton is posed in the exact same way that one of his victims was dumped or posed at some gruesome crime scene.

Donna Lass disappeared in September 1970. The Halloween Card was sent in October 1970. Maybe the skeleton is Donna.

P.S. I like your manner of throwing a lot of "mud at the wall" to see what sticks. I like your brainstorming. Sometimes your ideas really catch on!

Haley--

While not of popular opinion, you (and I) are not the first to consider such things.

It would appear Avery took this case personally and to a different level...the H.C. card aside. It seems he felt he was a big factor in this case and wanted to be recognized as the lead reporter--which he most certainly was, for a time at least.

I have often thought the Pines card could have been written by someone at the S.F. Chronicle. The Abe stamp looking down on "Averly". Abe Mellinkoff was the city Editor of the S.F. Chronicle at the time. The card was not mailed. Someone else at the Chronicle? Maybe someone wanted to scare Avery. It sure seemed like it worked...if not him.

Haley, very interesting theory and idea. Don't forget, the end of the word, PAUL, and the start of the word, AVERY is underlined on the envelope for this card sent to Avery. LAV.... Maybe that's a clue too!
