(The original discussion thread about this new book had reached more than 1,100 posts, so today (June 19, 2014) I have decided to add several additional threads, including this one.)

The author believes Earl Van Best jr.'s name can be found in Zodiac's codes. Newbies are impressed. Are you? If not, why?

I am not impressed, as I could use the author's methods to find virtually any name in the ciphers.

Nothing new, people have been finding what they were looking for in this case for 45 years...

I think you hit the nail on the head Tom. Anyone who has ever spent more than 5 minutes researching Zodiac has tried to crack a cipher, and has seen a name, or initials, or place of birth, etc... that has to do with a certain suspect or lead.

To answer your question: Not impressed. If/when some of the unknown ciphers are cracked, we will have answers that we all agree on, not someones interpretation of it that can be debunked or proven wrong.

Why would the Zodiac leave his name in a cipher? That's just stupid. I assume we're talking about the ciphers. If it's just the normal text that's even worse.

Actually, it is quite common for killers to reveal themselves indirectly, as in BTK's eventual undoing of himself by communicating through cereal box drops, emails, poems, phone calls and more. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are broad hints at identity in the ciphers. Ultimately, killers want credit where credit is due.

I couldn't agree more.  Yes, it might be "stupid" if a killer leaves his/her name somewhere verbatim, however, broad hints are likely going to occur.  But as zodiacspeaking2014 says, it has to be an answer that we all agree on and not a dubunkable interpretation.  It's got to be something even a 5-year old would agree on!!

Not code related per say, but interesting...

Clearly says VB, and with a stretch, an E turned on its side
via the three fingers. Or the 14 could be 1+4=5. 5th letter of the alphabet =E.

Having other eyes look at things will no doubt find many other such fits with EVB Jr. or any suspect for that matter. i'm still waiting for someone who knew Van from the Zodiac years to come forward with some info.

3 fingers, a circle, 0 = 30. 14, 1 and 4, take the 4 away from 30 = 26, use the 1 to find out that you only need 1 letter, 26 = Z .. Z = Zodiac. I could do this all day to create whichever letters I want. This does not prove !%+$.
