NOTE: For privacy reasons, I have edited parts of the audio linked below, making it confusing/choppy at times.

If you know the full names and contact info of the persons involved, please do not share it.

Audio is just over a minute in length:

John is my informant in the audio. I interviewed him a couple of weeks ago, and there is nothing that makes me think he is lying.

I also interviewed Craig, the person to whom the suspect allegedly confessed. I'll say this, his denial was very odd.

My impression was that John is being honest, and that Craig didn't want to admit to me what Gyke had told him.

Of course, even if Gyke really did "confess" to Craig, people will say Gyke was just messing with Craig. Or, if Craig eventually admits the story is true, some will look for anything to discredit Craig.

So, this will likely forever remain a point of contention.

MORE DETAILS:

The alleged confession happened in 1990 or so. Gaikowski was depressed because he thought he could be arrested any day, and that one of his friends (Blaine?) had been talking to the police. He was worried about who he could trust. So he met with another friend, Craig, near Gaikowski's apartment in the Mission District of San Francisco. The two went into Gaikowski's apartment and Gaikowski brought out several items from another room, including a hood w/symbol, a shirt that had dark stains on it, and a gun. He confessed to being the Zodiac, pointed the gun at Craig, and then laughed and said something to the effect of "If you tell anyone I'll kill you."

Craig and Gaikowski were both extremely eccentric and into over-the-top "art." Perhaps Craig thought it had been a performance of some sort. Craig didn't relay the confession until John mentioned Gaikowski as a possible suspect a couple of years ago.

That's the whole story, for whatever it is worth.

Unfortunately, if Gaikowski was the Zodiac and hid evidence in his home, the apartment has been recently renovated and is now a nail salon, as seen in this video from October 2014. (Thanks Drew!)

For what it's worth, I found the guy who Gyke allegedly confessed to a "strange bird" - but then again many people in that whole circle (artists, film makers, poets, etc) are a little "off" Good work Tom, tracking down this info and following up - it still may bear fruit beyond our wildest expectations (hey, I can hope !!!!)

So Craig is denying he told John Gyke confessed? In what way was his denial odd?

Interesting. If Gaikowski was depressed and worried about being arrested, why would he then decide to display incriminating evidence and threaten someone?

If Gaikowski was the Zodiac, he wasn't a normal dude. Nutty people do nutty things. Look at what got BTK caught.

I see Craig statement about Richard's confession as collaboration of what Blaine had been saying all along. I, as well as many others, have been waiting years for new testimony like this to emerge, and this could lead to more people stepping forward for more evidence in a 'Cosby Effect'. Craig backtracking is hard to explain. I hadn't realized Gaikowski was such a honored figure in San Francisco Bohemian community. It leads me to wonder if other people in the that tightly-knit (and over-the-top) have been holding back because they were afraid that they would be punished if they soiled the name of a local hero.
