They called him the "doodler", because he sketched his victims before he killed them. Believed responsible for 14 murders of gay men from Jan 1974 to September 1975. There were survivors, but they refused to testify because they were afraid of outing themselves. This all happened while the Zebra killings were going on AND the Patty Hearst kidnapping was in the headlines.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doodler

Odd this never came up with all the research people have done over the years! I wonder why this didn't get much publicity?

Tahoe, my guess is for the same reason the Grim Sleeper murders didn't get media attention back in the 80's -- it's all about who you kill and the importance society places on those lives. As for LE, with Zebra and the SLA roaming the streets, the SFPD had their hands full. Still, like you I'm stunned by this. SFPD had a very small homicide squad back then -- I bet Toschi and Armstrong caught a couple of these homicides.

I have heard of this killer in passing, but there are never any details. It reminds me of a gay sk in the Midwest who buried his victims right outside his house. No one payed much attention to the missing victims because of their sexual orientation and lifestyle.I hope to find out more about this killer.

I've tried to find some aticles on the Doodler via ancestry.com using various keywords and have only been able to come up with the July 8, 1977 article. None of the victims are named nor are there more specific dates than between January 1974 and September 1975. It would be helpful to know some of the victims names. I think this is going to be a tough one to research. Not impossible just time consuming.
