Yes, it's true, the QB78 HDD is now available. AND IT WORKS!

Our tests show that it provides between 40 and 50% greater total energy than a QB78 family air rifle in factory condition. And that means a whole lot more shots per fill of CO2. And no reduction in muzzle velocity takes place either

So what's been happening?

The simple answer is a whole lot of testing. In fact, I'm certain that weve given it far more testing than any other QB78 family aftermarket accessory to reach the market. That's thousands of shots and dozens of installations. All that work has enabled us to really understand why and how the HDD works, together with its limitations - which are very few.

Here's what we find:

- The HDD will work with all QB78 family models.
- It works with the entire range of factory hammer weights. However, it performs somewhat better with lighter weight hammers (59 Grams and below).
- It works with all factory hammer springs of 62mm length and less. That's about 90% of the known population of factory springs. Shorter springs give better results. A few factory guns have hammer springs of about 66mm length and these will show a lesser improvement.
- The HDD works with 90% of the hammer pins in factory guns. For those hammer pins that are too fat, a little gentle filing will provide the required clearance. And we'll have CNC-manufactured pins to the correct dimensions available with the kit shortly.
- As the HDD requires friction against the hammer pin slots to work, it will not work in guns where the surfaces of these slots have been smoothed, such as can be done in tuning.
- It works with the XP Tune Kit. The XP/HDD combination gives tremendous performance from any QB78 air rifle without the need for an expensive tune. And you can do it yourself!
- The HDD significantly reduces temperature fluctuations in the main tube compared to a stock gun. These temperature changes are less marked due to the better use of gas and they result in less shot-to-shot differences in muzzle velocity. More consistent shooting is the result.
- Installation requires a different technique from that I normally describe. So we've written careful and explicit instructions for how the HDD should be installed.

Phew!

Thanks for your patience. I know that many of you have been waiting for this hammer debounce device. I'm glad to confirm that it's now ready for prime time. You can see it at http://www.archerairguns.com/QB78-HDD-p/qb78hdd.htm

Will this HDD work in a QB that was converted to hpa? Thanks.

George,

All the testing we've done has been on CO2-powered guns. My expectation is that the HDD will work with HPA running at similar pressures to CO2 (ie 850psi), but I can't guarantee that it will work with higher pressure use as we've not tested that.

Cal,

The basic HDD is still the same. What is different is our vastly-improved understanding of the performance envelope that it will work in, together with the development of an installation method that will work every time.

The HDD is a simple device, but it uses a sophisticated design and it has significant interactions with other parts of the gun. These interactions are what we've been investigating.

We've always known that the HDD works, but previously it was not clear how many QB78s it would work with successfully. This is due to the manufacturing variability in factory parts. Through extensive testing, we've been able to confirm that the HDD will work with the vast majority of QB78s out there. We can now also define the exceptions where factory parts variability exceeds the capability of the HDD to function correctly (eg very long hammer springs) and things that are done to the gun by its users that impact HDD performance (smoothing the pin slots, for example).

In my view, this is all related to customer satisfaction. We want people to be able to install the HDD knowing that it will work for them in their gun, not to have a "maybe it will, maybe it won't" product. Gaining that knowledge took a lot of time and effort, far beyond that required to actually design the HDD itself.

The new pins will be available soon but are not included in kits shipping initially.

...over two months ago...

...that achieved results like these...

The only thing that's changed is that, thanks to a tremendous amount of time and effort invested by Stephen, we now understand how Chinese manufacturing tolerances interact with the new product. Archer Airguns can now provide its usual level of exemplary customer support and care and insure those interactions are successfully accommodated by customers in their own guns.

in making sure this kit works. The results speak for themselves. I hope your market realizes how useful the HDD is, and the time you've put in pays off.

Steve and Stephen for such a great product and all the exceptional data.

My reason for asking was because I ordered the HDD when I ordered my gun and will be installing it next week. So far I've just been enjoying shooting my QB78 AR2079A and have not yet really started tinkering. Was trying to get a baseline so I will know what are the best mods I will do.

The goal that both Steve and I set together from the beginning is to develop useful QB78 mods that are a "drop in" for the average user.

This has been achieved with Steve's design for the QB78 Two-Stage Trigger http://www.archerairguns.com/QB78-2-Sta ... rigger.htm

And now we feel that this has also been the result with the HDD. Every QB78 family air rifle needs one
