except for shoot offs, the 1/2" kz should have some sort of maximum distance, no more than 20 yards. Shooting 1/2" kz's is tough enough with a rifle @ 20 yards, with a pifle/ristol it would be ridiculous.

They are a sure thing for me 10-15 yards away.

I wouldn't wanna shoot 1/2" killzones @ 25 yards......

unless I had to...

but I prefer to think of the pistol as being 2x harder to shoot (accurately) as a rifle (more or less - but 2x makes things simple). There are guidelines for the distances when setting up rifle targets, simply divide the distances by 2 and you have pistol distances. Similarly, since max distance on rifles is 55 yards, I'd prefer to have the pistol max at 30 yards (I'm willing to round up from 27.5). We didn't do too bad on the 3/8" target at last year's IAFTC state championship.

Carlos,
Don't let Ron hear you say that! Get ready for ROT! Everyone is already talking about the trip!
See you in March!

I'm not a sadist or masochist; just an idiot! Had a good chuckle at Carlos' statement about 1/2 kill-zones no farther than 20 yards, as I have never (and never imagined) placing a 1/2" beyond 12 yards! To put in into better perspective, I remember (not THAT long ago) when 3/4" at 10 yards seemed beyond all reasonable difficulty. "The times, they are a'changin'..."

That a 2X multiplier factor applied to PFT (from RFT) is about as close to reality as we're gonna get.

Top level shooter certainly can hit 1/2" kz at 27 yards but the rest of us mortals need them a bit closer.

Here's my proposed KZ limits

1/2" - 15 yards
3/4" - 20 yards
1" - 25 yards
1.5" - 30 yards
2.0" - 35 yards

I used the PFT Troyer Scale from CTAC Website for Nats PFT. Nt.

1/2" - 15 yards

1.5" - 30 yards
2.0" - 35 yards

You're spot-on (so to speak) with my thinking Carlos. nt
