the materials being fitted , and the depth the insert part will be going ( surface area interaction ) actually a 3rd factor is the force it will retain..
SO for example if it was a perfect 1 inch i.d aluminum 6061 tube , and the cap was same material and the stem going in was .300 long.. I might only interference .004 and use the chamfer or a taper to get started.. Now switch that cap material to delrin , and id go .010 to .015 bigger.. this being for a pcp LDC.. also depends on how you do the press , and the wall of the tube.hope this helps a bit.Ive tried stuff like press fit plugs , overdid it and realized I had no way to machine the surface like new again ( because of where it was ) Trial and error to a degree.
