Considering an HW97 in .177 for HFT. Interested in hearing which is/are most accurate pellet/s. Muzzle velocities.

Pros/cons of light (8.44) vs heavy (10.3) pellets.

Thanks, Bob

But whichever pellet is most accurate with your rifle is the one to shoot. Usually its going to be a choice between Crosman Premiers, H&N FTT's, or JSB exacts. I've seen a few 97's that shot 10.3's really well but the lighter pellets tend to fly flatter so most of the time we are using the 8grain pellets or similar.

Ive had the best luck with either JSB or Air Arms 8.44's. You will have to try different lots of each, they aren't all created equally! Then if you get really hooked you can start sorting and sizing head diameters like this crazy person. lol. Good Luck!

Know the muzzle velocities you are getting with the JSBs?

which requires sub 12 ft/lb. They are shooting 775-785 fps.

Several 97 shooters in the DFW FT group. Everyone shoots HN FTT 8.x. Most shoot 4.51. My rifle, I am told by an experienced shooter who was checking it out, shoots a hair faster and more consistently with 4.50. Personally, I found a couple of tins worth of Exacts shot as well as the HN (based on group size alone), despite being really loose feeling (soft lead? undersize heads? both?) in the lede.

One interesting thing, one shooter bought his in late '15 or early '16 from Krale (12fpe), and I bought mine in late '16 (so recent production, about a year apart). Both have been torn down by experienced shooters/tuners, who found little or nothing to do to them. No excess grease, good seal fit, etc. etc. So it seems like the more recent ones (at least the 12fpe models from Krale) are pretty, pretty good out of the box.
