This Wednesday we will have a 50 yard benchrest shoot at Haverhill Hound Gun Club in Haverhill MA. The goal of the shoot is small group size, not score. Three shots per bulls eye, 15 or 30 bulls, time permitting, will be shot. This shoot is inspired by the guys at the Temecula shoots out west.
Hope to see you there.

Just for fun. We have one shooter that has shot good scores with a .177 TX200 even. There's room for everyone on our line.

We are doing about .80" groups at 50 yds with HW97 and FWB 124. What size are you seeing out west? I look to improve that by trying some different pellets and a more sophiscated soft rest vs my fist.

He uses a soft rest, a bag I think. His aggregates are around an inch, but we shoot in wind, and the aggregate is normally thirty individual groups for a match score. Ive seen several of his groups at under 1/2".

Bill,we get started at 6:00 P.M. Most entrants try to get there a little early for sight in and conversation. It has been a good time. We are shooting s different venue every week. Hope you can make it. Tim

I know our scores would improve quite a bit if we could do that, due to the lack of wind, but there is no way most folks would even ATTEMPT to drive to my place with a start time of 6:00pm, esp in midweek with rush-hour traffic.

We usually shoot between 10:00 and 1:00, which means we always have wind, which usually get up fairly stiff by 10:30 or 11:00. It dies down most days around 6:30 pm+ lately, and its too dark to shoot by 8:15 or so.

I'm going to try a couple groups today at a bit over 100yds after 7:00 pm to see how the 15.9gr JSB's do vs the 18.1gr at longer range with my gun. I don't like getting up early to do this.

We usually have pretty calm conditions. Last week was a bit windy and it would have impacted the group size.

Waited til 7:00 pm and tried my rig (USFT BR setup) with the new SS barrel from inside my garage out to a target I set way up near the rocks about as far as I could get a clear shot at. I lasered it at 116 yards. I fired four groups on the same multi-bull target just before the sun set. There WAS a little breeze but it was pretty light for here. I used JSB 15.9 gr pellets straight from the tin.

The AVERAGE for the four five-shot groups was well under one moa, with the best of the four being JUST at half moa! I sure wish we would get a morning that calm at on of the next matches!

There is a pic of my target on this thread:

Here is the best I've done. Four consecutive 5 shot groups with the independence at 100 yards, ST barrel, and 18g JSBs.
