First I would like to say to all,its nice to come here
and tell our problems about these x's..and get good response
probaly not enough thanks..but appreciate your help

Now for my starting problem, last year bought a starter off
of Matt ..been starting great ever since until today
But first I want to say,I gave a guy a light with my
cig lighter ..thought I left the key on ..try to start
it and nothing, push started thought. would charge up but
that wasn't the case..battery fully charged ..I tried
letting it run for awhile ..shut it off and still the
same results ..dosen't sound like it is engauging maybe
a starter solenoid..not sure,now for what didn't make since
I tried to push start again and failed to do so this time!

Thanks

..... to the solenoid is connected properly. They tend to come loose.
Easy fix, hope that's it.

We can only offer up some GUESSES.

We probably can get it started... but not necessarily FIX the problem.

Try doing these things first, one at a time, in order:

1. Remove, clean and reinstall the ground strap, try and start it.

2. Feel for the RED wire on the starter solenoid, it has a FEMALE terminal clip. Remove, pull up, gently crimp, and then reinstall. Try and start it.

3. Use a set of jumpers and a fresh battery, try and start it.

If all three fail...

1. Measure voltage at battery. Should have 12.50 volts or better.

2. With voltmeter still connected, have a helper read or place face down on windshield, and engage starter. Even if starter does not spin, does the voltage dip to 10.50 volts, but no lower? If the battery dips to 8 volts let's say, then the battery is probably shot, with a bad cell and cannot take a "load". Your local pats store usually will load test the battery and let you know for sure. Batteries like this will not hold a charge either.

If you get the car started...

1. Measure voltage at battery. Should read about 13.50 volts or better indicating alternator is charging.

Call me between 9 and 9 if you need further help... but you'll need to have a voltmeter handy as its the only way I can "see" anything over the phone... 661-296-7277.

Volts was ok with the meter reading ,everything checked out ok
while checking starter notice there was a wire off..starts fine now
I have a question on the sending unit wire ,as you may recall I had
that hose problem a few weeks ago and thought unplugged the thermostat
sending unit wire because after the hose problem my guage wasn't working
I noticed when I was under there the wire was connected fine ..
but there was another loose wire is there 2 wires for the sending
unit or just the one wire ..still no guage for the

Was also curious why the car didn't push start, unless that was the
main lead on the starter..stil thought it would push start.
is there a main power going to the starter ?

Thanks

"Volts was ok with the meter reading ,everything checked out ok

In the future... the word "OK" for a voltage reading will not be good enough. Here's why: About seven years ago I spent 3 weeks with a "no start" condition because my ANALOG voltmeter was not sensitive enough... and the DIGITAL voltmeter ($2.99 from Harbor Freight) was the TOOL that showed me the difference between 12.05 volts using the engine as GROUND, and 12.50 volts using the chassis as GROUND. That .45 volt static loss was the indication of a bad ground... and after all that time , energy and testing of the starter, alternator and battery OUT of the car... plus chasing down the ignition switch and all the circuitry... the problem proved to be a loose GROUND strap.

You really need to get specific here... it'll save YOU a lot of trouble.

I believe you mean to say the "Temperature Guage Sending Unit"... Had me scratching my head again...

I also believe the wire you have LOOSE is indeed the sending unit wire for the temp guage... there are TWO sending units nearby, one is the OIL PRESSURE and the other it the TEMPERATURE sending unit.

If you attach a test lead to the loose wire and start the engine... and QUICKLY ground it for just an INSTANT, you should see deflection in the temp guage. Get some GOOD LIGHT back there and you should see the sender it should connect to. SQUISH the terminal on the wire a bit so it will stay on better, same goes for that starter lead!

Was also curious why the car didn't push start,

Yes, it should have... probably just a coinsidence...

unless that was the main lead on the starter... stil thought it would push start.
is there a main power going to the starter ?

Yes, on all counts, the POS cable on the battery TERMINATES on the starter, and YES it shoulda started. It might behouve you to first disconnect the NEG cable from the battery, pull the 3 starter bolts, SQUISH the radiator hose and DROP the starter. Then loosen, clean, and retighten ALL the wires and cable connections on the starter, and put it back up again.

While yur at it.. add a SECOND ground strap or cable UP TOP between the cam cover and the chassis so that you now have TWO LARGE ground cables for the engine... and one of them is up top, out of the muck and mire, easy to access and maintain.
