Push Button start

Push Button start

I saw a post awhile back that someone had installed a push button start in the dash.

My X had a remote push start also that was installed when a mechanic was having trouble with the famous starter.

New starter still did not work, but he had a remote hooked up so he could start it, well, remotely.

I had him install the remote between my seats by my elbow.

I turn the key, push the button, and I have not had a starter problem in 3 years.

Now, my question is this....can I hook up this starter remote to an extra existing push button in the dash? Do those switches have enough ooooph to handle the start?

The stock ignition switch contacts are "weak" in this area and eventually are no longer able to handle the amperage draw. Most of the stock dash switches are for low amperage things also, and are not MOMENTARY (push to hold on).

I'm not familiar with the switches on late models like Rudy's, so I don't know what switch he used on the console... or if he modified it so it was momentary versus stationary. But you can see it is clearly a push to hold switch. He also may not have used a relay... but if not, I would think it would not last very long.

I used a hazzard switch and removed the piece of metal wire which converted it into a momentary switch:

Then I installed it sideways and declared it my "Play" button:

I have disconnected it since I installed ANOTHER BRAND NEW ignition switch a few months ago and no, I did not use a relay although I will be prepping a plug-n-play connection with one to serve as a back up if the other fails me again.

The other hazzard switch on the right side runs my secondary radiator cooling fan...no relay on that either but it's hardly ever used....on my list.

I like the sideways Push Button. I will bring all these notes to my mechanic to see what he can do.
