Ok my friends.

At this point of time all the struts i got from Summit are in the X !!! never thought it would be so easy to take out and put them in but i didnt diasseble the coil mysel cause i dont have the special coil squeezing tool..

nevertheless... the front ones were changed and also the rears, that were meant to be shorter by 3 cm as i have shown in a previous post.

i didnt sent the uncle yet to cut the front coils to lower the car cause i thought it would be wise to ask before cut !!!

Ride height:

Rear:
the rear whell arch is about 6.5 cm high from the top the tyre (185x60x13 falken ziex512) and from the top of the rim about 15 cm high.

Front:
the front wheel arch is about 8.5 cm high from the top of the tyre. from the top of the rim the wheel arch isa bout 17 cm high !!!

please have in mind that my numbers are + ,- 0.5 cm correct !!!

i attach photos of the car as it stands now !!! do you need any more measurements, or can you suggest how many cm to lower it (Rear-front or BOTH)

enjoy

Hi George,

I think it looks "normal" now, meaning that it looks like a stock USA-spec X1/9 from a ride height perspective. Ours are a little high in the front, probably set up that way to meet some gov't-required bumper height law.

Get on flat/level tarmac/asphalt/concrete, then measure the distance from the ground to the flat bottom of the rocker panel at the white arrows:

I would think that you'd want the back and front to be equal measurements, or for a more rakish/sporty look maybe the front a little lower, say by an inch.

i put the car on the pavement and tried to get some readings for the dimensions u ask.

i measured them to be roughly :

Front : 12 cm from the ground
Rear 10-11 cm from the ground (i would say 10 though)

So..what is the verdict...chop or not !!! ???

Thanks,

Be careful when you cut and bend the front springs. If you go just a little too far the springs will be too short for the strut to keep it tensioned (and thus centered) when you lift the tires off the ground. I nearly ruined my "Plia Pivot" on one side because of this, the upper part of the spring had gotten offset a bit when I let the car down and started to wear the aluminum. Luckily I caught it early enough.

Maybe someone else on this list has figured out how to keep the upper assembly in alignment with short springs by now?

Cut one coil out of the front spring and heat or grind the end to fit the pocket... and you will be SOOOOOO glad you did!

It'll ride a bit FIRM and handle A WHOLE BUNCH better and also STOP better.

Did I forget to mention... LOOK BETTER and LOOK PROPER?

Get ta work George... yur almost there!

these are not chopped, but are original aftermarket sportsprings from hormann i believe. I bought them from henk martens. They lower the car about 3 cm = 1,2 inch. Together with KONI red shocks, it give's a firm ride!
