First off...BE REALISTIC and no lowballing to try and scoop it up for cheap!!! hehehee

I am going to part ways with my X...sniff sniff. I am about to embark into the Porsche 911 scene and need to sell the X to finish off the monetary needs to do so. I need help with a good price range and who better to help me than you good fellas and lady(s).

For those of you who don't know:

86 X with 66,800 miles totally orig. even had the alternator rebuilt instead of buying a non original type replacement from Bosch.

I'll say no rust, but as you Guru's know, there is always rust...a little bit underneath the trunk carpets and a few spots here and there such as the engine lid side lips and a few even smaller spots by the battery...and finally a little on the inside underneath door corners. Paint is glossy and again no rust whatsoever on the outside body. needs one tron cap and stupid me just left the gas cap last week at a gas station that doesn't have it in their "gas cap lost and found" so I am going to buy one from midwest X (Matt). does have a few dimples here and there, I don't know if they are even bad enough to try and get out or not, I'm not going to do it, the buyer can if they want.

Mechanically all original, except the distributer cap, plugs, etc... Runs strong through all gears, no problems whatsoever in acceleration and shifting. may need timing belt changed because I have no idea when the last time it was done...I also personally feel like the axle bearings may need repacked...or as, I believe I read...they are non repackable, just replaceable..? I feel a very SLIGHT wobble only SOMETIMES as I am backing out of the driveway. I'm paranoid and finicky though...so its probably my imagination.

Interior is all good except the typical to x cracks on each side of the defroster vents...and the drivers seat has supposedly got a tear in it...it has suede leather matching black and gray seat covers that look good...so I never even looked underneath...The top is in GREAT condition...as well as the all the rubber. hmmm...I can't think of anything else. Oh, radio is weak...and I will take back the totally original thing I said...the antenna nor radio is original...and the antenna is the weakness. but the car does have the plug in for an ipod...wooohoo!!

I'm saddened that I have to give her up, I would say she is in excellent condition to be nearly 100% original, but not close to concourse. Hard choice to sell her.

Thoughts on prices? Need pics?? anything I should add??

Oh and sorry if this should be in the FS section, but this is not the ad...this is just a pre-HELP ME opinion feedback thing. Though I/we need to be realistic, the higher I sell mine for, the more yours will be worth...right?

Thanks all!!

...just to see for my own edification if I'm even close to what others may say following.

Looking at it superficially, I'd like to see you get $2500-3500 for it.

Being the bottom feeder that I am (or have been told heh),however, I'd personally not ever pay more than $1500 for an X1/9 and would keep looking until I found one for that price or less.

I hope you do well with it and sorry that you have to see it go...

Seems very nice. You could always run it for a week on eBay, pay the small fee to place the ad and see what comes of it. It is the right time of year, I would think. Just be certain to put a reserve on it that covers the rock bottom you would take for it. Pretty car, Good luck. What Porsche are you looking at? Coupe/targa/cabriolet/year.

...a knowledgable X-head will offer you 2500. If you hang a "for sale" sign on it on a nice sunny day in the late spring/early summer you might get an impulse buyer to pay you considerably more... same goes for Ebay, but that's a hassle.

If it were mine, and someone offered something around 3000 to 3500 for it, I'd take it.

More opinion... the cost of keeping the X will be chicken feed compared to what you're going to pay for 911 parts and maintenance... so keep the X around for when the Porsche is in for a tune up...

Ya, it sure helps my decision to buy a 911 having a Porsche/Audi/Mercedes Mechanic living accross the street who does work on the side.

Not going quite like I hoped...or dreamed maybe?

I've seen some X's go for $4 and $5k, and IMO, aren't any better than mine, of course I'm partial to my girl.

This is what I needed...so I'm not suprised or disappointed if I don't get what I REALLLY want ($200,000) for her. hahaha. I'm selling my 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro right now on Ebay...hopefully it will bring in more than expected since the general consensus concludes the X prolly won't get what I ws hoping.

Thanks guys!

I bought my '86 from Mr Fiske for 2500 and it was a little rougher than yours, but in great shape overall. Just a little more rust in the usual places and an odd front hood dent where it looked like someone tried to pry the hood open. Don't settle for less than 3k.

Once the newness of the Porsche wears off, the "individuals" you'll be forced to hang with, the insurance and maintenance bills, the worry of where to park, the inability to fix anything yourself, the probability it'll be stolen, and the financing of those 0 - 60 speeding tickets... plus its looks... yur gonna agree with me.

Don't do it... you'll be sorry like so many others that have come crawling back... Huh Rudy!

(HAHAHA... but... much of what I said is indeed TRUE!)

My best,
