Good Heavens!

Gm had control of Fiat, and they didn't make a updated x 1/9?

They made a Fiero once, but once they owned the company that made the car that inspired the Fiero.....They don't make it.

Yet, GM managed to make the Aztek!!

I would rather see a Fiat "Fiero" then a Aztek.

GM dropped the ball big time!!!

For one GM wanted nothing more to do with Fiat, and probably would have run away even faster at the thought of bringing back the X1/9 to North America specifically

For two at least in Europe GM already has (as Julian pointed out) the Vauxhall VX220 - what the heck would they want a new X1/9 for?

I don't know. I really do WISH that Fiat had some way to pull this off... all we can do I guess is wait for Geneva and see what comes

.. GM never actually "owned" or controlled Fiat like that at all.

In fact, they coughed up 2 Billion Dollars to avoid that kind of ownership!

At most they held 20% of Fiat stock, which became 10% after Fiat's restructure, and now is zero...

meet U.S. safety standards. That is, if GM was interested in mktg it in the U.S.. Which they are not.

And speaking of Pontiac's beloved Aztek, my wife seldom takes notice of cars, but did single an Aztek out during our drive back home from SoCal last weekend. She said (and I quote) "that is the ugliest abomination I've ever seen on the road!" Out of the mouth of babes...

but this is a great looking car! I've not seen nor heard of this one but this sure is more like what I would like to see in a "new" X.

Oh, but it should be affordable, as well as meet all of the other guiding principles of our X.

... because if it had been, there really might have been (quite literally) a "poor man's Lotus Elise" in the cards for us from Fiat! Oh well...

i think fiat has some stiff competition if they were to bring the x1/9 back... this vauxhall is some piece of machinery!

The VX220 is certainly a nice piece of work but it *is* only a MkI Elise with new clothing and a different engine, it is a bit heavier (actually makes for a smoother ride) but it doesn't handle as well (better for the road) until you get to the turbo version which is stiffened up (hopeless on ordinary roads) but not stiff enough for the track. What it does have though is serious power - almost enough to give my TVR a challenge on the 0-60 sprint.

Downside? It has a fueltank the size of a cocktail shaker and it drinks like a Oscar Wilde which doesn't make for a good combination. Nice car - shame about the car is the only thing I can summarize it with.
