... catergorized and indexed also.  Hopefully Mac will chime in...

(I gotta tell ya though, I'm guessin' I'm just too old but I don't like the new format at all...  Sometimes an ANALOG guage is just BETTER than a DIGITAL...)

The thread structure on those newer things is just so much better than what we have here. I didn't even notice the difference until I joined other car forums, like Ferrarichat.com, benzworld, etc., and it's just completely different. The threads are sorted by relevance and it's just much nicer than every thread, no matter what, just disappearing down the page. I really detest that now...because I know that we are missing some great threads and 'just scrolling down' gets way too laborious when you go through a few pages. That's not at all necessary with 2.0 structure.....I'm quite confident you will find it better, and your disdain for change will be but a happy memory. Thanks for sending the extra windshields.....

That on Xweb 2.0 the USER has a LOT more freedom of choice in selecting their own preferences on things. Already one of those things is the ability to select one's own preference for viewing threads in chronological mode (by time of thread start as we have here on Xweb 1.0) or in recent reply bump mode (as you see 2.0 by default). Just go in the user control panel over there and you can set all sorts of preferences, and there will be more to come, one down the road I am hoping to implement is a view preference that would change the entire "skin" of the forum to a user's preference of it looking like a "digest" (as it does at the moment) or viewing it in a "fully threaded tree" on the indexes just like Xweb 1.0. My philosophy is, in light of the fact we've always had about a 51% vs 49% split on every conceivable user preference around here over the years, the best solution for 2.0 is to give all the choices I can to the user

Peace, -Mac

It is "theoretically possible", but it has never been done afaik between the two systems in question (vb & N54), and definitely would be plowing uncharted territory to make it happen, so - maybe, but if so not any time soon. It presents some high technical challenges in the case of the two systems we have to try to "link up" to work with since there is not only the migration to make happen but currently no existing means by which to "translate" the wonky N54 database contents into the vb database...

Anyway maybe a full migration of some sort like that may happen down the road one day but for now we will have to just count on people bringing their knowledge with them to begin populating the new system with good content. Of course people can also post links over there to the existing archives/best-of/threads over here as well. Not the "ideal" option but it works for now. We just have too many more basic challenges to tend to on the 2.0 system at present. I am just happy the registration emails seem to be working again since I disabled a particular plugin feature...

I haven't tried 2.0 yet but just tell us how you want it organized, and there are plenty of us who can just cut/paste between the two systems when you are ready to pull the trigger.

I for one don't post that often but I check this site almost daily just trolling around so its a learning experience !

Split the task into factions and let members pik the chunk they are willing to cut and paste. Of course that would be a one way migration, but this is what I had in mind in the first place.
