Did the 79 and 81 come with wheel spacers? What was the reason for them? Are they really needed ? Thanks

<<< Did the 79 and 81 come with wheel spacers? >>>

All X1/9s came with a single wheel spacer bolted to the rotor/hub by the alignment dowels.

To give the car the desired track width, help insulate the wheel from the brake rotor and to spread out the load from the wheel mounting face across the brake rotor hat (helps prevent warping).

Ideally, you want to retain them. In practice, you can remove them. I have removed them to fit extremely wide wheels to gain tire clearance.

It shouldn't cause you any significant problems.

may have been put on by the previous owner as it didn't look stock. Both cars came with original wheels though.

front of my sisters garage. Still have the clutch slave to replace so perhaps in 2-3 weeks. The Miata is on the go 5 days as I had it in my house garage. Hmmm guess I shouls switch locations. 1999 with 42,000 km. so I'd like to keep it in it's A-1 shape.
