Anyone find any good combos from the CSM codex? The inclusion of the exalted champion and some of the strategems seem pretty good.
- Veteran of the long war is pretty huge with the +1 to wound buff. SAme with the +1 to hit buff from prescience. Chosen or havocs or other units toting special weapons can drop melta or plasma shots with +1 to hit and combined with a lord for reroll 1s. Overcharging would be risk free on the plasma guns as the +1 to hit means you'd never roll a 1 and would never be slain. The +1 to wound from veteran strategem means you'd wound most vehicles on 3s and could dish out a ton of damage. If you really needed a dead target too like magnus or a knight you can death hex it or just use a slaneesh unit and double shoot in with the cacophany strategem. Veterans lasts the whole phase so you'd get the wound buff for both attacks.
For assault you can buff some world eater berserkers and charge in with an exalted champion. You get +1 attack for the legion trait. With chainswords that is 3 attacks per zerker or 2 attacks at S6 and -1 ap with chainaxes. Veterans provides +1 to wound and the exalted champ rerolls failed wound rolls. This works for BOTH the berserkers fight activations and could even for a 3rd activation if you used the 3cp strategem that lets an infantry unit fight again at the end of the fight phase. With an icon in the unit you get 6" movement, reroll charge distance, +3" pile in s per activation and another 3" consolidation. So 13" - 15" initial threat range for the charge and another 6"-9" for pile in/consolidation threat. If targets are packed together you could have a single unit sweep through 2 or even 3 units with the extra fight activations and end the phase in combat with another
While combat is good I"m pretty stoked on the kill shot strategem is pretty awesome for predator armies. it takes 3 preds but grants +1 to wound and damage rolls vs monsters or vehicles. Perfect synergy for long range destruction. Las preds chewing through tanks or knights from afar with rerolls to hit from a nearby character. Seems pretty solid
Did anyone see the silly assassin list that won a smaller tourney? It's like 20 characters with a bunch of assassins. you park the psyker assassin that is only hit on 6s in front and advance forward. The rest of the army cannot be shot at due to not being the closest unit. So you gotta gun down 6 assassians before you can really engage the rest of the army and its always the closest unit you can shoot. So the sniper assassins are pummeling you from afar and the melee one infiltrats in and attacks weak targets. It's pretty silly but fun to see creative lists pip up.
There's a couple of good ones.
One is Black Legion + Alpha Legion making use of deployment masking with 40 Cultists practically on the enemy's door stop, and the other is alpha striking a Black Legion Prescienced Chaos Lord with the Murder Sword + Termies to obliterate the enemy leadership in turn one. I've seen that Chaos Lord butcher Roboute/ Saint Celestine in a single round. It's less super effective against non Imperium armies, but still very good
