Unfortunately, "Mashhad" is the only Iranian city named in honour of a foreign invader.

Nice pictures, what are those walls for in the middle of the first picture?

Hadi,

I think you already know what I am talking about, but for the benefit of other members, I will attempt to clarify my earlier comment.

"Mashhad", which in Arabic means "place of martyrdom", used to have the Persian name Sanabad. The reason behind the renaming is that a member of the Arab empire's elite, ABUL-ASAN B. MS B. JAFAR, was killed there by a rival Arab, the caliph Mamun, in the 9th Century, CE. The murdered individual, who is commonly referred to as Ali al-Reza, or Imam Reza, is considered by Twelver Shias to be their 8th imam, or infallible successor to Mohammad. Curiously, the title "Reza" was bestowed upon said Arab by his own killer, namely the caliph Mamun.

Each year, millions of superstitious fools go on "pilgrimage" to the grave of the murdered Arab, and, in effect, pay their respects to one of their former foreign imperial overlords. This is yet another symptom of the mass scale Stockholm Syndrome which afflicts large portions of the Iranian population, and which has been the primary cause of failure and backwardness for Iran.

Hadi,

Actually, no. If you bother to read the relevant Wikipedia articles, you will find that they read like Shia religious propaganda and fail to meet Wikipedia's objectivity standards.
