I got a note from Lorrie Krontz (Jack Longacre's daughter) which notes that Jack's original term for highpoints was "highspots."

He doesn't have any connection with England, does he? Everything's different over there: they don't sand roads, they grit them (!); parts of autos (motor cars) are all different (and they drive on the L.); on/off ramps are slipways while the median on an expressway (motorway) is the central reservation. Breakdown lane is the hard shoulder. They have "semi-detached" houses; I don't know what those are. And they don't have bald spots, for those not lucky with Rogaine or Propecia, they have bald patches. Oh well at least we don't have high patches .
