Dave Reuss describes climbing Granite Peak, and I'm sure you'll want to read it after this opening line:

I am climbing Granite Peak, the highest mountain in Montana, and sweat is pouring off my brow. Im choking back vomit and my spine really hurts, yet Im happily wallowing in this abject misery. And I think youll understand why.

I'm not so sure that this feat would qualify as a world record. On November 4, 2001, I visited the state highpoints of Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama on the same day - and I don't think that feat was all that noteworthy in light of what a group of HPers did in the northeast some time before that - seven state HPs in a single day.
