So... as is usually the case, I have been distracted and have started something else. Over the past few months I have been collecting together plastic Squat miniatures... and have a truck-load now so I have started putting them together. I am sculpting the arms myself (to try and get better poses) and will have berets for all the Squats that don't have helmets. I expect that mobile gun platforms will join this army rather than carried heavy weapons... but it's early days and I may yet get distracted again.

Anyway, here is what I have so far:

You will notice that I have coated some of the 'wire arms' with a first layer of green stuff ready for the proper sculpting to go on top. They are obviously still WIP but this pic shows what the guns look like and how I am arming my Sgts as well. The two sgts with berets will not be used for the helmeted platoons so they are being saved for a platoon that has berets instead. Here's a pic of my Squat making mat:

You'll notice the weapons for the troops, that are either getting lengthened (plasma pistols into plasma guns) or have been shortened (lasguns) plus a couple of Cadian flamers. There are no weapons for two of the troopers as they will be controlling the heavy weapon units.

I also have this [I Swear Too Much] character:

I think this project is going to take a while :D ...

There will be extra information over at Inso's World (link in sig) so pop over if you fancy a meander :).

Very cool, Inso! Squats deserve a second chance.

Where did you get the bulldog from?

The dog is from Mantic's Dwarf range from Kings of War.

Detailed pics can be arranged but it will have to be when I am actually working on them so it may take a while :)

Here's the next update... I'm now up to 26 WIP squats with 2 actually [I Swear Too Much]:

there is all sorts going on with these:

The helmet wearing troops are a single 25 Squat platoon (the 3 with berets will be in the next one)
The specialists have been given armoured arms because their weapons get hot
The command squad will have a lieutenant, medic, flamer and two close combat troopers
The lieutenant has a power weapon made from a flamer, sprue and a Mantic hammer
The Squats in 1 and 2 squad, with no weapons will have control of the heavy weapon platform

For more information, pop along to Inso's World for the update:

I've started to add some details to the arms... I am going for a 'metal-muscle' look to them (a bit like Colossus out of the X men). I've also started to tidy up the next little addition...

I'd imagjne an all Squat IG army would have their heavy weapons squads at least partially mechanized (for mobility), opening up possibilities of wheeled/tracked/legged/hovering heavy weapons platforms in a uniquely Squatty style...

My first thought was something like a slightly [I Swear Too Much]/wider version of a Thunderfire Cannon with a seat on the back for the Squat crewman (2nd crew feeding ammon in or some such)..

Anyway, loving what you've done so far & am envious of your greenstuffability :-)

@ Radu - I am like a leaf on a breeze... and currently, that breeze is blowing me towards sculpting. At some point, the direction will change but I have no mojo for painting at the moment and just have to ride where the breeze takes me. Sorry :( . I also like to paint in units so until I have a unit [I Swear Too Much], I am unlikely to start painting.

@ trollmeat - I have gone for these gun platforms for the squad heavy weapons:

They are from Anvil Industry's Afterlife range.

I have not thought too much about larger platforms (yet) as I need to keep my focus on the troops as much as possible or the project will die (I get too easily disctracted and wander off the plan... :( )... but the ones from Mantic look like they would work quite well:

^Awesome. Those gun platforms are perfect and those bigguns with pilot/targeter sitting in the back are great (I'll have to look at the rest of their range) :-)

This week, I have used a bit of extra free time to work on the Engineseer. He only needs his head and back-pack sorting and he will be done. I have also added some arms to 'Big Robot' but they are only loose as I will need to remove them to work on the body areas:

As usual, there is more about the Engineseer and other things over at Inso's World (including a rather cool little quad bike that is perfect for 28mm use):

I'll probably wait until Big Robot is [I Swear Too Much] before I put up a 'group hug' :) .
