Well, these forums need some posts, dag-nab it! Since I just started this campaign, I won't be shy about adding some posts. :)

I just finished this mission, and man was it fun! Talk about total carnage. Mech parts were flying all over the place. It's a little bit of a shocker going from 5 pilots in elemental suits to 2 lances assault class Clan mechs. But I adjusted and got with the program quickly. Those 6 repair trucks sure came in handy....

The quick load function seemed a bit glitchy. The first time I used it it crashed my game. The second time I used it 3 of the pilots I had brought in via mech salvaging did not show up in my pilot list anymore, but they were still in the game and under my control. I accidentally ended up with 17 mechs under my control because of this. Weird. But happily, the 3 pilots in question got credit for participating and their mechs were added to my mech storage.

That's the fun glitch in the save game/load game functions.

When you lose a Mech or Repair Vehicle, then save and reload the game, the Vehicle you lost shows up briefly in the list of mechs, then disappears. As you add mechs to your group, they just slide over on the display, filling in where dead were. Anything not displayed is still in your inventory.

Using this method, I ended up with 20 mechs at the end of one mission, and could have had more, but ran out of pilots!

The best way to access the mechs not listed, is to select them with one of your first mechs on the list and group them together. Then double click one that early mech and you select them all.

Works great for the mission where you get bonus points for salvaging 9 mechs with HFD's.
I think that was in this campaign. After about 20 campaigns in a year, things start to blend together.

Yes, thanks OldMan. There are some limits to the original code that I never looked at specifically which can create issues like this in case of high number of player units.
Such situations did not occur in CARVER V.

I put this mission and contrast in to have from the beginning the full scope of situations outlined. Both situation can occur; one time you are extremely vulnerable and without means and anothertime you can dominate the battle despite plenty of attackers

During testing I lost that mission a few times when the pandora turrets had been destryed early; they wipe out a number of enemy mechs.

I could see getting overwhelmed in this mission pretty easily. I tried to let my allies be the punching bags, and this allowed me to focus on heavy fire support. Those Masakari's, err, Warhawk's with mass heavy lasers were just slightly on the deadly side! Anyone who got too beat up went to the back lines for repairs. Somehow I managed to take out the heavy waves of enemy mechs without losing any of my pilots.

As for the glitch, this is the first time I've encountered it. I'm glad to know it doesn't have any negative side effects. Yeah, I figured out that I could still group my "unlisted" pilots and control them easily that way.

Actually, there was a negative side effect, but I can't remember the exact situation I encountered it. Under certain conditions, it just doesn't work. If I play this mission again, I'll try to remember.

And remember, it's not a program error.

It's an undocumented feature.

It is always strange to say something is wrong but I don't know what. :winky

But which is wrong? The 'glitch' or the situation where the program works as designed and doesn't let you get get more than 16 mechs on a mission?

I remember now.

When a Repair Vehicle is in the very last slot and dies a natural death (i.e. uses up all resource points), it's treated differently than dying in combat. When you recover another Mech, it won't work any more.

Oh, okay, interesting. I wouldn't necessarily call that a "negative" side effect. The only thing that is breaking seems to be the glitch. This glitch has now happened to me twice in the campaign. I wasn't nearly as concerned about it the second time it happened. :)
