Name: Kane Beynon
Physical Appearance: Kane is "exceptionally average" as even his mother concedes. He is a little over 5 feet, and is projected to only reach a maximum height of 5'9". He is of average weight for his height, with an average build for a 15 year old. He is pale, with an angular face, thin lips and a slightly aquiline nose. No features such as birthmarks, moles or freckles help differentiate him from others. His hair, light brown, is fairly short and is swept to the back right of his head. These features make him blend into a crowd, with unintended side effects: no one can find him in a large crowd, no matter how hard they try. Because of this, he is known for sneaking out of parties and family gatherings. The only physical aspect of his that is somewhat distinguishing is his eyes. They are a grayish blue, light but intense. As his family and friends describe them, they "pierce deep into your mind and soul". This unnerves many who meet him, and is influential in his uncanny ability to unsettle a person enough to keep him or her from lying in his presence. Unsurprisingly, Kane considers his eyes to be his one redeeming feature to an otherwise plain, unexceptional person.
Personality: Kane, like his physical appearance, is exceedingly ordinary and unremarkable. He tends to stay quiet, only speaking when spoken to. His introversion complements his lack of distinguishing features, as he can stay in the background without anyone noticing too much. He does not care for ambitious, lofty goals, and instead is a good follower, taking orders from others. Kane's lack of leadership can prove to be occasionally problematic, especially when a leading role in a project is forced upon him. He also does not take his education entirely to heart. While he does his best to please his parents, he is not even in the slightest sense an academic. The only class he could be categorized as "above average" is Transfiguration, which also happens to be his favorite class. He prefers this class over others because of the nature of the magic: to change the appearance of something, a struggle that has haunted him since he was born. He does not take risks, and chooses to only act on something when he is sure there would be no harm done to him. This ties in with his motivation and his scholarship (or lack thereof) and makes for a quiet, unobtrusive, yet noncontributory, unoriginal partner or group member. However, he does whatever he can to help out those in need, whether it be friends or family. His sense of loyalty rivals that of even close family members, and this unwavering desire to make those he loves happy is what Kane prizes best about himself. Kane's giving nature is what makes him special in his small group of friends, and is why, despite his many shortcomings, he begins to grow on people.
Character Background: Kane was born to two middle class Welsh parents in the town of Merthyr. His raising could be described as nothing else but uneventful. The son of a wizard pub owner and a stay at home wife, Kane grew up in a quiet town. His friends were very few but very tight knit, just like the rest of the community. As a small town boy, he enjoyed walking through the center of the village, persuading the shop owners to hand out a few pieces of candy for them, and running through the fields of the farms bordering the town. His schooling as a youngster included the basic math, history and English. He learned a little Welsh from his parents, and was fascinated by it. Although he doesn't know too much, he loves to find others who know the language and try to speak with them to further his understanding.
He had never known that he was a wizard. His parents were not dependent on their magic, and he had never really taken notice of the strange things that went on in his parents' pub.He only learned of his magical heritage when he and his parents visited his family for the first time when he was nine in Cardiff. It was there when his magical powers first manifested themselves, in the most spectacular war possible, not indicative of his appearance or personality. What began as a simple game of tag ended with a huge explosion in the middle of a field and a thin layer of soil covering every roof and street in the area. He spent the following two weeks locked in his room, nearly catatonic. The shocking revelation that he was a wizard was too much to handle. Kane's parents were forced to coax him out gently of his self induced stupor and restore him to his former self. After that, the family's pub took off, and his parents' focus immediately shifted to the growing business. The pub became such a hotspot for wizards and Muggles alike that his mother was forced to give up working at home to join her husband in running the place. Kane, for the most part, became ignored in the household, with his parents even forgetting to lay food out for him before they went to work.
By the time he was eleven, and the Hogwarts letters were sent out, his parents had nearly forgotten that he existed. He had to remind them the day of the Hogwarts Express departure that they had to be at King's Cross before nine o'clock. The growing gap between Kane and his parents has affected him greatly. With not so much as a postcard coming from them, Kane has become more reclusive. He does not have many friends at Hogwarts, which does not reflect his loyal and giving nature.
