There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

John 4:18 NIV

And yet, for some, fear is their motivation to "believe". What is behind this fear? It isn't perfect love.

Isn't that the definition of a false gospel? One that teaches fear.

the ego doesn't fear God, until God reveals himself to the soul.....

and this is why the 'fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom'; here the ego and Satan know their time is short and indeed, once the soul is revealed through the coming of Jesus Christ into that soul, the ego knows its time is short and Satans wrath becomes great towards that soul:

perfect love

be ye perfect as your father in heaven is perfect:

what is perfect love? It is the love of the FATHER in our heart which is always, always, always OUTGOING towards others, and not towards our self; as a matter of truth we love others just as though they were our self or what I call "SOUL":

the love of the father in us LOVES EVERY SOUL AS ONE BODY, hence the "Body of Jesus Christ" is one body, ONE CHURCH:

sects and divisions prove that the PERFECT LOVE of the FATHER is not operating perfectly yet through us, even though it may be SHED abroad in our heart;

if the heart is filled with love it comes out, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks:

yet we become PERFECT in WORD first and then in DEED:

we can't PRETEND to love anymore than we can pretend to breathe and have life

feigned affection is not love: Pretense is from the ego while true LOVE is through the SOUL that becomes the image and likeness of God while the ego will always remain the reflection of the earthy:

now the earthy will be new in the end so that it too can be part of all that is saved, hence the meek (soul that is corrected) will inherit the earth, but a new earth where righteousness dwells

the new heavens is where Gods throne is within us because Christ sat down to rule from within the heart, the MOTIVATION and INTENTION towards God and other.

perfect LOVE loves others because the father loves them and the love of the FATHER can't DENY others in us; it would be impossible for the LOVE OF GOD IN US to hate another soul even though it can certainly hate the ego in another....because God hates it enough to finally kill it for OUR SAKE.

hating the ego means "when the ego touches God", it dies for it can not touch such a great life and live: THe soul on the other hand is made to hold it; it is the vessel that is great enough to hold the light so that it can GO OUT TOWARDS OTHER SOULS since they are all joined, connected even if we don't recognize this with our ego:

so it is like this, on the soul level we could all be joined like a big family in heaven and on the earth we could see every one as an enemy because of the ego: This is a terrible thing that only the soul can realize, not the ego:

the ego recoils from this knowledge like a snake because it knows that it needs to hide in the earth, in caves to not be seen, since most people are scared enough to want to kill a snake when they see it if they know its poisonous and likely to kill them. This is our ego hating other egos and their source:

The ego hates other egos too but not for the reason God hates them: THe ego hates others because of the experience of LACK and the erroneous idea that someone elses gain is the ego's loss:

only the SOUL can truly know that there is ENOUGH and that one doesn't have to have less if others have more....this is why the soul is able to shine the love of God towards others realizing that there is always more where that love came from

the ego reckons everything like a pie where there are only so many slices and it makes sure that anothers slice isn't bigger than their own:

the ego feels this way about God as well, thinking if someone else finds God it will be LESS of God for me: Now the ego can be persuaded to PREACH the gospel of God for gain, either money or pride or simply as a contest of souls, but the ego can not really care or love those souls because the ego doesn't really SEE the soul in others unless it has discovered its own soul:

once the ego discovers its own soul the BATTLE FOR THE SOUL begins, hence true CHRISTIANS always, always, always ENDURE PERSECUTION but that persecution begins with their OWN EGO wanting to kill their soul: Since the soul is easily spooked by the ego if it doesn't LEARN TO CLING TO CHRIST, the ego will frighten the soul with CONDEMNATION and judgment that it isn't worthy to be saved, good enough to be saved, and the ego will continually prevent the soul from seeing its unity with other souls as well, making the ego that is not yet dead focus on other egos instead of other souls: this battle goes on and on and on, and only a CHRISTIAN who has discovered their soul will feel this struggle within:

for egos who don't have a feeling for their soul, there is no such problem: Like I said yesterday, the ego has an IDEAL SELF and a DISPISED SELF because it can't live up to its ideals, but it is so good at PROJECTION that it is able to project the dispised self onto others and save its own face: It is also able to project its IDEALS onto others and find them wanting of the IDEALS of their ego:

The soul on the other hand when it is FREED is able to see other souls as SUFFERING the same persecution of the ego as they have suffered in their own ego and in this, they are able to RECEIVE COMPASSION for other souls in this same dilemna

a Christian then who has more soul consciousness than ego consciousness has come to this by the SOULS LOVE FOR GOD.....and in this love, the LIGHT OF GOD is able to live within the experience of that soul which is immediately refracted back at God: In other words the first WORK of the SOUL is to BE PERFECT IN WORD....to receive the WORD and GIVE IT to others as UNTO God:

now, others don't respond as God does and to make matters worse, God stops responding to everything the soul does for him in order to TEACH HIM LOVE FOR OTHERS

this second commandment is much tuffer to come to, but in this the soul is made PERFECT in the sense that it FINALLY IS ABLE TO LET THE FATHERS LOVE BE SHED ABROAD FROM THE HEART to other hearts...other souls, realizing the soul is ONE as GOD IS ONE:

if the soul is NOT ONE With other souls it is not the soul who experiences this but the ego who alone is independant of others:

this is why the FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM

it is the ego that fears and this fear actually shatters it......and leaves the soul alone to go and worship God in the wilderness

but, the affects of the ego and the broken parts of the ego that were not overcome completely at the time of crossing over to the both the wilderness (within where we have never been before) and the spirit that is made ONE when it is crucified with Christ and JOINED to the Lord as ONE Spirit, these parts have to be corrected:

this is the "body of sin" that the person experiences as pain and suffering even once the soul is already in another place, hence the devil persecutes the woman and the remnant of her seed, those who keep the commandments (OF LOVE) and have the WITNESS/testimony of JESUS (are baptized into JESUS NAME)

the body of sin has to be destroyed as we see with Paul in order for the PERFECT LOVE IN THE HEART which is revealed IN WORD

to become the PERFECT LOVE IN "DEED" or towards OTHERS

it is written that God himself both WILLS and does in us, but the SOUL must come to this understanding and knowledge completely.....allowing God TO ALWAYS WORK in the soul and through the soul

since the soul is the identity that is made in the image andlikeness of God, it has the power within it to rid itself of the "devils" that were part of its ego but now is left within the experience of the soul; what are these devils that Paul said were the messengers of Satan that buffeted him even after his spirit was already one with CHRIST and he already endured his wilderness experience (14 years in Arabia) before he was sent to bring the good news to the nations/gentiles?

the sins left after the spirit is joined to the LORD and the soul is being sanctified in the wilderness through this NEW SPIRIT (hence a child "manchild" shall lead them) are self pity for persecution and self indulgence because the body no longer has light in its experience:

the body feels dead but the SPirit feels alive so the body feels a need to receive light from other sources till it learns to DENY those and then it is given the LIGHT from above where it is within the spirit and soul, hence, let thy Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven:

the body of one who has crossed over is getting the worst part of the tribulation which is often why it gets sick when it goes through this spiritual battle: Satan can't reach our spirit and even our soul is corrected to a large extent, except with these two sins....

this is why Paul asks God to please remove these messengers of Satan but God tells him, MY STRENGTH is made PERFECT in YOUR WEAKNESS

he also reminds him that THE GRACE that came into him with JESUS CHRIST IN HIM, is sufficient for these devils that he will overcome when he finally finishes his race

so what does perfect love for the other have to do with this race?

when the SOUL that sees, understands and knows God now through the UNION of spirit with the Lord, allows that LOVE TO GO TOWARD OTHER SOULS....the law is fulfilled in that soul:

as long as the soul doesn't allow this perfect LOVE that is shed abroad in their heart to go towards the other souls, the sins that are left over from the ego life are still battling against that soul:

these sins tell the soul that others don't deserve the love of God; that others don't know what that soul knows so they are not worthy to be loved by God; these sins tell the soul that it is not worthy yet because of these THOUGHTS that it still can hold;

see the enemy knows how to tempt and then ATTACK for being fooled into listening to him: it is always a two step by the devil to both tempt and then persecute that soul for being weak:

God allows this final battle because it is important to God that this soul now is finished with the FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD and allows CHRIST IN THAT SOUL TO RULE in the way CHRIST ALONE can and WILL be able to do

when the soul agrees with GOD in all things, he will make even his enemies to be at peace with that soul: IN other words, the mind will be renewed, so instead of an ego that thinks of itself first, it become A SERVANT of the very soul that it lives with:

the mind will also be a servant to the KING (or WILL OF GOD that leads it):

then the three fold new creation will be perfected IN LOVE spirit, soul and body

but the BODY will be the LORDS in that souls consciousness and no longer the body of the ego or for its own use:

its a long journey from SELF to the SAVIOR but its one we are destined to ENDURE to the END
every day is a new day to die to the old and live to the newness of life

they will be busy with this work and leave the world to the world:

the CHURCH is so interested in the world because it is still bound in the ego, which belongs to the world;

the world hates the soul because it hated Jesus the master of the soul:

the world however loves its own but how does the world love?

it rewards others for being the IDEAL SELF that the ego wants to be

but not for long; the very ego that applauds the other egos for being idealistically great, will turn around and bite them in the next move

thats the love of the world for ya:

every day is a new day to die to the old and live to the newness of life

John 4:18 NIV

And yet, for some, fear is their motivation to "believe". What is behind this fear? It isn't perfect love.

Isn't that the definition of a false gospel? One that teaches fear.
...you're ignoring context.

First of all the Author is addressing TRUE BELIEVERS and NOT UNBELIEVERS. To TRUE believers he is saying that if TRUE BELIEVERS have love for ONE ANOTHER, God abides in them and HIS LOVE is PERFECTED IN THEM.

I Jn 4:12
12 No one has beheld God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and HIS LOVE is perfected in us. (NAS)

What is driven out is the FEAR that NON-BELIEVERS MUST FACE and that is the FEAR OF BEING JUDGED TO AN ETERNAL HELL.

1 John 4:18

18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears punishment has not been perfected in love. (NET)

The PERFECT LOVE that exists in TRUE BELIEVERS drives out the FEAR of PUNISHMENT. Only in a genuine personal relationship with God IN Christ Jesus can this fear of judgment to an eternal hell be diminished. It cannot be cast out by personally denying the existence of hell or the punishment of it.

I see the storm of arguments coming... Does that make it a "prophesy"? Is it then "predestined"?

I suspect you are correct.

For those that have no love, that verse would give offense.

Fear the Lord God... ??

Although the phrase "fear the LORD God" is common in the King James version of the bible, why should we fear or dread the very arms that we are, with every breath, lovingly drawn into? Certainly there are some people who can only be motivated by dreadful fear, and for them, such words of fear may be useful, or even necessary, but for the rest of us, there is a far more beautiful and inspiring interpretation of the these words.

Admittedly, millions have learned to have a fearful attitude, perhaps by using flawed translations or by listening to those who have blindly preached such fearful attitudes. This unfortunate concept of fear and dread seems have often been a result of the choice of words used by the scripture translators, not from the original words of the prophets.

The word most often translated in the Old Testament as fear is the Hebrew word (transliterated as yirah) which can possibly mean fear, but also means awe, reverence, respect and devotion. A closely related Hebrew word is (transliterated as yare) which can mean fearful, but also means to stand in awe, reverence or honor.

Similarly, the King James translators also chose to translate the Hebrew (transliterated as mowra) as fear, although it also means reverence, object of reverence, or an awe inspiring spectacle or deed. Another word that the King James translators chose to call fear is the Hebrew (transliterated as guwr) which can mean fear, but which also means to stir up, sojourn, dwell with, remain, dwell in or to stand in awe.

Fortunately, some of the newer bible translations are slowly beginning to correct this situation and are beginning to use fitting terms such as honor and reverence to express our relationship with God. What a magnificent difference it is to change from an attitude of fear of a dreadful, vengeful God into the beautiful, loving attitude of awe, reverence, respect and devotion towards a kind, loving God.

Compare, for example, the old King James version of Nehemiah 1:11 which reads ( with my added bold letter highlighting):
O LORD, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
with New Living translation which reads:

O Lord, please hear my prayer! Listen to the prayers of those of us who delight in honoring you. Please grant me success now as I go to ask the king for a great favor. Put it into his heart to be kind to me." In those days I was the king's cup-bearer.

or the New American Standard which reads:
"O Lord, I beseech You, may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to revere Your name, and make Your servant successful today and grant him compassion before this man.'' Now I was the cupbearer to the king.
or the New International Version which reads:
O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man." I was cupbearer to the king.
Oh what a delightful difference!!

Interestingly, the same sort of metaphors are also used in the Qur'an. For example, consider sura al-Tawba where the Arabic word (transliterated as yakhsha) is typically translated as "be fearful". However, just as in the case of the Hebrew words considered above, this word stems from a root (kh-sh-y) which means to have fear, dread, awe, veneration, respect, honor or reverence. This same root appears about 50 times in verses of the Qur'an (e.g. 9:18, 20:3, 35:18, 87:10) and the reader must choose whether it is appropriate to recognize a Creator who deserves fear and dread, or One who deserves our loving awe, respect and reverence... or perhaps both at the same time.

Certainly there are passages in the scriptures where dread and fear are the appropriate connotation, but in many other cases, it is clear that feelings such as awe, respect and reverence are the greater significance. So, as you read the lines of your favorite scripture about "fearing God", try substituting these beautiful feelings of awe, respect and reverence for God and observe the results for yourself.

Perhaps with such new thoughts the old ideas of a distant, threatening God will turn into an ever-present beloved friend and companion... only then will these lines from Matthew chapter 22:36-37 fully make sense:
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

with love,
wahiduddin
