Happy post Christmas to everyone!

The news that Daniel Vettori is to become Middlesex T20 coach was announced a few days ago.

With the T20 blast being played in a block now I wonder if this is the first of many such appointments.

Indeed maybe Yorkshire are, or should be thinking along the same lines.

If you look at the brains trust on the support benches at IPL and now BBL games there's a lot of experts out there doing the rounds.

If JG doesn't have a full-time job by the summer perhaps he could pop over.

Any views.

I was thinking that too Geoff. The initial view of JG (by some on here) was that he didn't have a clue about T20. However, he led both of his teams to the finals in 2016, so maybe he has learned quickly.

I think Pyrah (who accompanied JG last year to Australia) was being earmarked as the lead coach in T20, but I wonder if this is still the case?

Twenty20 is a format Yorkshire have not yet cracked and a specialist coach for the Blast is worth investing in. Subject to recruiting a quality overseas T20 player (keeper/batsman), I am more hopeful of Yorkshire's success in the Blast out of the other competitions. If anything, Yorkshire should make the T20 Blast top priority given the amount of quality personnel available for the tournament.

No disrespect to Pyrah, but a specialist coach who has experienced the big stage and knows how to bat against spin is something Yorkshire need. Besides I doubt Pyrah would be able to combine both Vikings and Diamonds lead roles at virtually the same time, particularly when the Kia Womens Super League is meant to incorporate a 50 over tournament from 2017.
No Pyrah, no party

I've no idea whether he has coaching qualifications or aspirations but how about Ryan Sidebottom taking charge of the T20 side? This would be alongside Andrew Gale.
