Top v 2nd, 3rd v 4th, 5th v 6th & 7th v 8th next week. Could be a season defining week of fixtures.
Are Essex home and hosed?
A win next week v Lancashire, their nearest challengers and surely the title is theirs.
".....And so Essex had a fifth straight Championship win to toast during their remarkable summer. Essex have not merely outscrapped their opponents; they have positively eviscerated them. Consider Essex's margins of victories in this period: eight wickets, an innings and 164 runs, an innings 34 runs, eight wickets again and, here 179 runs....."
A very impressive run!!

Essex are almost like the mirror image of our side in the past few seasons: where we had consistent contributions of wickets from 5-6 bowlers but relied on exceptional performances from one or two batsmen(Lyth, Bairstow, Bresnan at various stages), Essex are sharing the runs around fairly evenly (6 batsmen with 450+ runs at 38+) while their bowling has been highly reliant on the three individuals named by Dave M in the other thread (Porter, Harmer, Wagner/Amir). Both add up to dominance anyway!
