What`s the point when he will play, at best, 2 matches a season for his new county.
I must be missing something here, but surely, Ali is an England centrally contacted player, so Worcestershire do not have to pay his salary anyway. They would also miss out on the ECB payments they receive if he left.
Offer him a massive salary to stay, knowing they will not have to pay that salary anyway, yet they would still get the annual ECB compensation payments. Def. in Worcestershire interests to keep him. Why let another county get the ECB payments.
