A cheerful read from David Hopps to set your weekend off:

As the title suggests this is a somewhat doom-laden assessment of YCCC's current predicament.
It brings into sharp focus, however, the dilemma facing the YCCC Board, and indeed, the YCCC Membership.
Do we speculate to accumulate, or do we retrench and hope for survival?
So far, the Board's answer, supported in silence by the bulk of the members, has been to opt for the former approach. There have been dissident voices, notably G Boycott and A Vann, calling for the latter course, but until now they have been over-ruled.
The apparent possible failure of the financing package, would bring to an end the Board's preferred approach and give a sort of victory, at the cost of International status, to the gain-sayers; and that maybe what we have to accept as the outcome. There are those who would see this as a disaster, but only time will tell whether YCCC can survive. Neither approach provides that assurance without question.
I tend to think like Hamlet:
"There’s a divinity that shapes our ends,
Rough-hew them how we will—"
In the end, we shall see. Prophetic doom is a two-edged sword. It cuts both ways!
