6,938 cricketers have appeared in the county championship since W.G. Grace faced the first ball at Bristol in 1890.
Of these, 808 men - more than one in nine - played only once; 100 of them failed to score a run, take a wicket or hold a catch.

Six batsmen have averages of 100 or more in the CC. Three are modern overseas players. The other three go back to the 1920`s.

Doubt if anyone can name all 6 (unless thy have the same book as me), but maybe the 3 modern ones can be named?

I'd guess at Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara & Barry Richards?

I'm guessing Ponting, and in hindsight, I think the other two are likely to be overseas who had short spells over here. To average over 100 I can't see it been a player who spent years and years here...

Ponting is correct, and you are also correct with the other two being short stay players.

I will keep it running for a while longer.

In the meantime, a trick question.

Which cricketer never took a wicket for his county, but got a hat-trick for England.
