One would think that if the Tykes don't win this match against a floundering Warwickshire side, Yorkshire may well end up all but booking a place in the second division alongside bottom-of-the-table Warwicks.

Any predictions as to our probable match day XI?
I know bonus points could be crucial but I would just say concentrate on winning the game and don't get too caught up with the bonus points.
Just ask for 4 days of good weather and if we don't win then we only have ourselves to blame.

Would be disappointed if Sidebottom not playing and would probably be risked if it was a dead rubber but no room for sentiment if not 100%.

Think Lyth, Braithwaite, Lees, Ballance, Leaning, Hodd, Bresnan, Brooks, Patterson, Rafiq, Coad.

As an aside I just find it amazing that the three sides that were fighting it out to be champions on the last day of last season are now fighting it out at the end of this season to avoid relegation. Wonder why??

"Lees is beginning to flourish away from the new ball (against which his feet movement can seem leaden -goodness knows why it's taken the coaches so long to spot this) -he looks like a natural no 3 of the sticking around type, in the mould of Trott;"

This does seem a little premature based on the evidence of one match on what was basically a road?

After the Middlesex game last year it seemed Bresnan was flourishing at 5 but alas that assumption too has proved to be not quite the case.

Lyth
Brathwaite
Lees
Ballance
K-C
Leaning
Bresnan
Hodd
Brooks
Coad
Siddy or Patto if unfit.

I can't see a spinner having a lot to do except to boost the over rate and Lyth can do that .

Sidebottom missing then (why didn't they wait until after his fitness test to announce the squad).
Not glad that Sidebottom is out but glad they are not risking him.

"A loss of Rafiq makes the tail look long at 8, need someone who can hold a bat there"

Not half as long as it does with Rafiq batting in that position. It is high time that YCCC moved on from the Rafiq myth. He is simply not good enough for CC cricket (IMO), no matter how valuable he is in the genre of Slog Ball; at which he excels!

Harsh on Rafiq when his fighting qualities with the bat kept Yorkshire in last years title race against Middlesex. We may need those qualities if Yorkshire end up under the cosh. Remember a certain David Wainwright doing a couple of houdini acts in past relegation scraps against Sussex, twice.

Think the first 6 pick themselves:

Lyth, Braithwaite, Lees, Ballance, Leaning (batsmen)

Hodd (keeper)

It now gets tricky, but I'd also leave out a specialist spinner.

Bowlers:

Brooks, Bres, Patto with, and its risky Waite plus TC-K. Although if those who really know feel that after injury Waite lacks a bit of zip, I'd go with Fisher, although I've a feeling I'm missing someone obvious!

I suspect with the forecast for Wednesday a bit dodgy we'll see a pitch which, shall we say, keeps the game moving!

EDIT: I am missing someone obvious - Coad. Maybe gamble and play him in front of Patto. I don't like Brooks at 9 - effectively playing three No 11s.

I don't see that Rafiq bats any better than Carver or Fisher or Coad; he is very unlikely to take wickets. Odd that a bowler who's a bit if a force in T20 is completely innocuous with the red ball, and against batsmen who merely have to wait for the bad ball to come along.

Do we play the extra batsman in a game in which we need to take 20 wicket? Can we risk Lyth as the only spinner? (I discount Leaning as a bowler, and I don't remember seeing Brathwaite.)

Is this the time to bring Fisher in? Try to freshen up a tired attack. Did Brooks bowl okay at The Oval, or did he just take five wickets?

Lots of questions, no answers, not from me. Over to you, Galey lad.

I do not get to many games but i saw Rafiq play a very good innings at Scarborough last year against Notts . Surely a much better batsman than Coad ?

Call me old fashioned but I like bowlers who take wickets. I don't see any benefit in playing rafiq, carver or Bresnan. Some might call me harsh but I'd understand if Bresnan is picked on past reputation. Coad and Brooks with Patterson and the fastest bowler on our books to offer some variation. Wainman, fisher, Warner?? Don't know much about either of them 3 so could somebody who HAS SEEN them live please enlighten me on if they are good enough please.
