Not long now and we can fill in the gaps and hopefully 2018 turns out to be a better balanced programme than 2017 was.

I thought the Thursday night Roses game was strange but Lancashire do have a home game on the next night versus Birmingham.

I think overall they can easily fill Headingley on a Thursday for a Roses game, especially with the reduced capacity, and that allows Lancashire to use the more popular Friday night spot to pull in a bigger crowd for the slightly less easy sell of the Birmingham bears.

Damn clever these marketing types.

Looks a tough start to me, with Essex twice early on.

A trip to old Trafford at the start of the summer holidays. Fantastic stuff (speaking as a teacher living the wrong side of the Pennines)

Same clashes as last year. ODI`s v Australia between 13th and 24th June. RLODC Quarter-Finals & Semi-Finals between 14th & 18th of June. IF we get to that stage, we will be without our best 5 white ball players again, as last year.

Also, again as last year, we have a so called "blocked T20 tournament, with a round of CC matches slap bang in the middle of it.

As mentioned earlier --- only 3 Friday night home T20`s and none on Sundays.

You would think that the length of time they take to compile them, they could manage to avoid these errors occurring every year.

If you have seen the 2018 fixtures yet you will have noticed the Championship start days. All the 4 day matches start on 5 of the 7 days of the week.Five consecutive Friday starts to kick off the Championship in April and May. The remaining 9 matches have Sunday and Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday starts! As Stu mentioned above the 5 ODI's against Australia clash with the Royal London One-Day Cup knockout stages. Our best players not with us. Not to worry. The ECB don't think we will make the semi-finals anyway. They have given us a Tour Match against India "A" on the same weekend the RLo-d Cup semi-finals take place! The t20 block? Well there's 6 matches then the County Championship Roses Match at Old Trafford , a 4 day match. Then the block returns with the final 8 t20 group games.A Joke. Finals Day at Edgbaston should Yorkshire qualify is not until the Autumn, September 15th! Want to go to The Royal London Semis? Yorkshire one game away from The Lord's Final, well if you only make play-offs, i.e the 2 matches some call the quarter- finals, you have 2 days and 13 hours to book your trip to the semis should the team win the play-off match. A joke as I said before! Thanks for all the hardship ECB. Don't they realize us supporters have to travel and book hotels and buy train fares and yet there is very short notice for all of that if your team wins the quarter (June 14) and plays an away semi on the 17th (of June).

The season starts April 13. The England team will get back from New Zealand in the small hours of April 6th. That means Root, Bairstow and Ballance will be rested until early May. Bairstow will want to go to The IPL for a couple of weeks to earn some dosh and our 3 England one day players namely Plunkett, Rashid and Willey will be rested by The ECB as they will be too tired after playing the ODI series in New Zealand in mid March and we will get them back at the end of April!

I was tempted by the Southampton game for a bit of tour around my old haunts until I realised it is a late kick off pink ball affair which doesn't leave space for much of a night out after the match. On the plus side I suppose the south coast is probably the best place to sit out until 9 O'clock in the evening in late June.

I was flirting with the idea of a cricket view balcony room at the Hilton but inexplicably that's about 40 quid a night more expensive than the week before. Tempting though.

I'm guessing you're a glass half empty kind of guy littleoldme.

If Ballance hasn't played he won't need a rest.

If he isn't picked then after the toss has been made for the 2nd Test in NZ on the 29th of March, both he and Yorkshire have a good case to request England release him early and get him home.

I'd be surprised if Plunkett, Willey and Rashid all play in the limited over games in NZ. In any case they are all over by the 10th of March, plenty of time to get home, have a rest and get some pre-season training in.

Speaking as somebody who has Friday and Saturday off, this is my favourite fixture list in years.
