I'm not sure it's a selection issue, whatever player they pick they don't seem able to do the job. We've had one after another top order batsmen and they've been given a reasonable stab at performing when it matters but none seem able to do it.Aug 25-29, 2017 - 2nd Test at Headingley, Leeds
England (from): Alastair Cook, Mark Stoneman, Tom Westley, Joe Root, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Toby Roland-Jones, Stuart Broad, Jimmy Anderson, Chris Woakes
West Indies (from): Kraigg Brathwaite, Kieran Powell, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Jermaine Blackwood, Shane Dowrich, Jason Holder, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel
So I don't think I'd point the finger at the selectors, they can only pick the players that are available, unfortunately there's not many about.
Mind you I wouldn't worry too much about the WI test matches do vary wildly from hammering one side to loosing badly the next, seems to be the way of modern test match cricket.
