Sunnydale woods. A place most avoided on nights like this. A night when the bright full moon hovered above the trees. Oz paused for a moment to gaze up at the celestial body feeling his mind drifting away in its brightness. Yes he had broken free from the hold that moon once held over him. Was no longer forced to turn into an beast not even he himself could control. But he could still feel the moons powerful pull. Could feel the slight hum running through his body pushing his senses to their peek, scent and sound painting a better picture of the world around him then sight ever could.

He blinked looking back down from the sky and started walking again, dark jeans and black jacket with its hood pulled over his head helping him meld into the shadows. He was not out here just for moon gazing. He had a job to do. A job he had taken upon himself to do. He was wandering through the woods keeping watch for any werewolves who may wander too close to town. The plan if he should make such an encounter? Well that’s when the tranquilizer gun hanging over his shoulder would come into play. He would tranq his fellow werewolf then take them back to his place. He had several cages set up in his basement where they would be safe until sunrise.

Something else he was keeping watch for. Werewolf hunters. Some hunted werewolves out of spite, some just for sport, and some for profit. Werewolves could fetch a high price on the black market. Anything from their fur to their meat, which some considered a delicacy. The thought of some innocent person who had no idea they were even a werewolf ending up on someone’s plate or as someone’s coat made a brief shiver run down his back. Sure there were some bad ones running about. Some that were probably better off being put down for the sake of others. But there were many who just needed help, just needed someone to get them on the right path, and Oz would help them if he could.

He spotted something that broke this train of thought. A truck parked on the edge of a long abandoned logging road. He scanned the area but didn’t see anyone in the immediate vicinity and moved a bit closer. He mulled over the possibilities. Could be a werewolf who drove out here before the moon took them. He knelt down beside the drivers side fingers brushing lightly over a boot track left in the earth. He got back up and followed those tracks for a moment before kneeling down to study them a bit closer again. They did not change shape and he did not see any tattered clothing on the ground. Both would have been telltale signs of shifting. Could be a hunter then. He stood back up readjusting the strap of the tranq gun on his shoulder and headed in the direction the tracks were going.

It did not take long to catch up to the person in question. He caught a flash of white fabric through the trees and brought the tranq gun off his shoulder. Making sure it was loaded before moving in closer. It seemed like the man was alone and Oz moved just a bit closer emerging from the trees. Oz was about to speak up, make his presence known, when a light fell on him. It was a bit unexpected and he had to bring an arm up to shield his eyes from the light. "What's there.. whose there?" A voice beyond the light asked. “Was going to ask you the same thing. Mind shining that light somewhere else?"

While Oz had his arm raised to help shield his eyes from the flashlight he heard the stranger ask if he was a hunter or just someone out for a stroll. Kind of funny they both seemed to be wondering the same thing about each other. “Little bit of both.” Oz gave as an answer. There was some truth to this. He was hunting in a way and he did enjoy a nice walk in the woods. The guy claimed his truck broke down, a likely story however Oz was willing to believe it. Most werewolf hunters he had experience with were rather cocky individuals and often liked to brag about what they were up to rather than try to cover it up.

Finally the light fell away and he was able to lower his arm blinking a few times to let his eyes readjust. Now that he was close enough to study Lindsey’s scent he knew he was dealing with a human. But even without that the flashlight kind of gave it away. “Well the things that go bump in the night rarely carry a flashlight.” He stepped forward pulling his hood down to reveal the wild red hair and watchful green eyes that had been shadowed underneath. “Oz. Not a good night to get stranded. Most people stay clear of the woods during the full moon.” Now Oz had to decide just what to do here. Being one of the good guys he couldn’t just leave Lindsey out here on his own. A human out here on their own with no obvious weapons? Guy might as well have an eat me sign flashing in neon lights above his head. Trying to get the guys truck going in the dark without any tools was likely a feeble effort and the chances he could convince someone in town, even the police, to come out here now was slim to none.

Oz looked off into the neighboring trees for a moment. Studying their surroundings he came to a decision. “My vans parked about a mile from here. I can take you back to town for the night. You can get your truck in the morning.” Oz turned taking a few steps to the left towards the edge of the trail they had been standing on. He paused to look back over to Lindsey and gave a nod for the man to follow. “This way.” Leaving the trail may seem like an odd choice but Oz knew it was quicker to cut across. “Just stay close alright.”
