Hi all team week one members.

Thank you all for your incredible efforts this past week in some truely challenging weather conditions. Despite this we achieved a great deal and learned a lot about the site in a short period of time.

1. we only seem to have one granary, the other building is impressive and at present remains a mystery, more to follow......... whats more, the other building has been demolished beofre the granary fell over its demolished remains.

2. the floor in the granary survived in patches and the underfloor is made up of columns in hypercaust style, thus far.

best,

Andy

Fantastic Pics and update Nic and Andy, and even though it looks freezing you all made a great start to 2008. You have had more snow than us in Scotland! Hope it warms up for everyone soon, and there is nothing like a 'mystery building' to keep us interested. Don't solve all the mysteries by July though! Keep us guessing.
Kate.

Well done Nic! Great photos from you and Andy. A mystery building already. I don't know if I will be able to handle weekly updates!

Hi everyone!
Just about thawed out after week one.
Here a couple more photos for you to peruse - Jo and i were working on an area that should have been something of a mirror image of where Nic was, but didn't actually fulfil this at all!
Here is Allendale, 3am Sunday 23rd March 2008. As we were staying in a cottage at the bottom of a rather steeply sloped valley with no phone reception we were a bit worried that we might not actually make it in on the first day at all, and were contemplating sending smoke signals!

Fortunately the road cleared, and Andy wasn't going to let a bit of snow get in the way or archaeology!

On Tuesday it was so cold that the fountain froze!
