Yes, indeed, this looks very promising, and is especially exciting for those of us further away who are unable to pop in to the site whenever we want. :-)

But I must be mis-reading the blog because I cannot reconcile the description of the area to be excavated that Andy mentions in the video (A1) with the A1 described in the summary of the SMC's objectives. The video shows the southeastern quadrant of the fort and is called area A1 in the narration, but in the SMC description, all the discussion of the fort's SE quadrant falls under A2, and the map on the blog also calls this Area A2. Perhaps these areas aren't meant to match up, i.e., the SMC objectives and excavation areas are not the same? Color me confused.

In any event, whatever they're called, I cannot wait to start digging. Well, actually, I think I might be prepared to wait for the snow and ice to melt.

This is great, thanks for going to the trouble of making the video and posting Andy.

It would be fantastic to have an occasional video as major features (ie: walls, ditches etc, not small finds B) ) get uncovered during the digging season.

This is very exciting! With the growing hunger for good updates throughout the year I'm sure this will be well-followed!

Great winter scenes, thanks, Justin. A bit of cool is just the thing needed in the Antipodes at present. Regards, Kathryn.

Whilst still being a paper book person and I'd rather have a bookshelf than a kindle I have noticed on Amazon that Robins excellent book on Vindolanda and other books on the Vindolanda Tablets are now available on kindle, useful for those who have to travel light to excavate but would like to refer back to these books in the evenings, there's a kindle app on iPad so the books can be viewed that way.

Justin has just posted a pre dig video on YouTube, very exciting to think this area will start to be excavated in less than a month.
