As the weary but happy diggers from session 4 drift home the Session 5 crew roll into action tomorrow, here's hoping for plenty of updates and fine weather.

I'm about to head off to Vindolanda for the 5th period. I'll be taking my camera along, so hopefully I'll find time to post some photos here for you all.

Some pictures from the end of the first day. A tiny spit of rain in the air but it was quickly blown away by the high winds.

Thanks for photos - looks like a nice short trip to the spoil heap now - great progress in only 4 sessions.

I did think that spoil heap was not quite in the right place - could have been more to the right and therefore out of the way. As it is, some lucky gardener with a large digger is going to have to move it!

That is one impressive robber trench smack-dab in the middle there! Thx much for the photos, looks like a great start to the new session.

I'm not actually digging in that area myself, so if you want to see anything specific you'll have to let me know where you want to see and try and describe the area! Otherwise I'll be sticking to general area views of places that look like they've been digging in.

No photos for today I'm afraid but I'll try and get some tomorrow for you all.

Those of you who enjoyed last year's blog from Alex & Beth and their Western Classical Studies students, take cheer: The blog & students are back! http://westernclassicalstudies.wordpress.com/

It's a fab daily write-up of Vindolanda as seen (mostly) by first-timers, and the enthusiasm & excitement of just plain being there makes for a fun read. Also, as the season progresses, the blog will likely give some good information on what's happening over in the North Field.

A few more photos of the south-eastern corner for you all, including one of the spoil heap because why not? It's probably a gargantuan beast to some of you by now.
