His crazy hair and crazier sweaters and ebullience will be missed. The early Time Teams that they used to broadcast in the US ~12 years ago are what first really fueled my love of both archaeology & the English landscape.

Same here Harry - first I've heard of his demise - he was such a breath of fresh air for popularising archaeology.

Sure will miss his "crazy professor" look as well as his enthusiastic explanations of any subject. One of the really greats and a very knowledgeable chap.

Mick Aston, thank you for showing volunteers and amateurs how accessible archaeology is in Britain! Your down to earth approach to everyone on Time Team and general modest imparting of knowledge and processes encouraged me to consider that work (unpaid of course!) and study in archaeology would be an achievable goal. Your involvement in Time Team was the key inspiration to many, thankyou.
