Hey all,

As it gets to be a bit much when we keep adding week this and week that, this is now going to be the place for regular up-dates and photo's about the granary site.

Some general comments.

Two granaries, one for grain, the other for everything else (at least that is the way they have been constrcted).

The most westerly granary has a 5th/6th century house built into it's southern end, a house that may have been occupied up to the 9th century, based on the artefacts that have been recovered thus far. Also, the granary house has a christian cross carved into it's floor, next to the letters IT. Any thoughts welcome on this one. The grain granary next door also has 6 crosses (not X but +) carved into one section of it's western wall, and we hope that by the 15th of May we will have a post Roman house or structure in this building as well.

Finds this week have included a rather nice gaming board made from stone.

That's all the news so far.

best,

Andy

Team 7

There are a lot of team 7, Justin was off this week due ot a nasty virus, so his crew joined our own to make a single team Vindolanda for that week. Many thanks to everyone along this week, the weather was good, and we achieved a great deal.

best,

Andy

Trench inspection,

Robin Birley pops in to see how the teams are getting along. Int he foreground the road continues to be uncovered to the south of the most westerly granary, and in the middle of this is a huge drain.

Great pictures, Kate. Thanks for sharing. The last picture is especially impressive showing some really well done Roman building and road construction.
