Here in the states we hear a great deal about coming austerity in Britain....any inkling on how it may impact travel next summer? Are rail schedules being cut back? Any talk of discontinuing the AD122 bus service?

Or even, worst case scenario, price of ale going up?

Given the horrid economic times of the 3rd century AD, which Vindolanda made it through just fine, I am not anticipating doom and gloom, but advance trip planning is always helpful.

Good questions Tim. One thing that we know about is the increase in the VAT - up to 20%. So I bet the price of ale will go up!

Now I personally, think that we need a tax increase in the USA, but I realize that such a statement is heresy in this country. :'(

Harry, don't give those Reivers any new ideas.

Given the beggerly simplicity of my personal travel plans a modest surcharge for the good of the Exchequer can be tolerated.

What with Ireland's bankrupt government to bail out and a Royal Wedding next year methinks the price of a lot of things will be goin up next year... Not quite sure how an almost bankrupt UK government is supposed to fork out the extra cash.

Not that I'm against Royal weddings etc but with the threat of redundancy, pay cuts or freezes I find myself increasingly cynical about the whole thing.

Sorry for the rant! Maybe I ought to get a job stacking shelves in Tesco or something. ;)

Rain morning and afternoon, high of 51 F for the first day of digging on Monday. Good luck, and here's to hoping the weatherman is wrong as usual!

It will be running this year as usual. I have it on good authority (Hadrian's Wall Heritage).
