For all those diggers who worked on the west rampart for all these weeks, this is towards the northern end where the clay was dug back from the fort wall.

Photo 3. The corner of a stone appearing, wedged between other inclined stones something like a collapsed stairway?

Photo 4. Very nice altar stone. Unfortunately no inscription, nor any sign of painted lettering.

That altar stone is gorgeous! I wish I could go digging every year -- so many interesting things to find and learn

Yes, beautiful piece of stone work, such a shame it was blank. If that had been my trench I would've been crushed when that became clear... :'(
