Cracking pics Bryan. You might be interested to note that your lumpy little pal (I'm not talkng about Matt here either :P ) appears to be now living in a pit in my area. As I haven't yet heard the water pump grumble, I suppose he must still be there!

Our lumpy little friend should be enjoying the wet weather. Hope you are not getting too bored dodging the downpours? What do you think of these marks on the rocks of the Barcombe quarry?

Perhaps they were tally marks? There were more than this, both on the roman quarry and the later one.
Here is another picture of quarry marks from the later workings

I hope that I am not boring everyone with the pictures. I will post just one more for now. This is a feature I spotted on the other side of the wall, beyond Saughy Rigg Farm, near Caw Burn. Have any of you any views on what it may be? I know that there are roman aquaducts in that area but it looks quite interesting.

Yes Harry it was a bit of a mess with all those vehicle tracks and mud. I am hoping someone will come up with a date as there was no message or postmark on the reverse. I am keeping my eyes peeled for more postcards etc of the site in our charity shops.
:)

Judging by the scorched grass 1975 or 1976 but I do not know the extent of the excavations at that time.

Thanks for that Nic, although I think the ground appears to be quite muddy at least in the vehicle tracks B)
