Not surprising - I was definitely questioning the name choice when I first read it.

There is precedent for sports teams to share names with a military demonstration team - but those are all public & private schools and colleges/universities... a professional sports team is a different story!

Southern Utah University (then the College of Southern Utah) took the name "Thunderbirds" in 1961 - but back then the USAF wasn't concerned about someone confusing a small college with their aerial demonstration team.

And the USN isn't that bothered either...
St. Agnes High School Sports Teams:
Mascot: Blue Angels; Colors: Blue, White; Type:Co-Ed / Public; Address: 1320 124th St, College Point, NY 11356; Phone: (718) 353-6276; Fax: (718) 353-6068

The College of New Rochelle (CNR) is a private Catholic college with its main campus located in New Rochelle, New York. Mascot: Blue Angels; Colors: Blue & White
There it is... the District of Columbia! You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
