I have also been following and enjoying this story since it first came "many, many" years ago, and have commented on new episodes.  I did not respond to the Repost episodes because you said they were for those who missed them the first time.  Since I had read them twice already, I didn't feel I needed to respond.  I also hope you will continue the story.

I am also one of the quieter types, but I have followed Showboat for years.

I think that everyone who is a regular reader here and student of history can write a story or three. First effort keep it small and write about one event or one point of view, play with it. Have fun. That is why you do it. IMNSHO

But I don't really think comments are the only measure. I know I don't like to comment just to be nice and generally not without reason of some sort. (Sometimes for wb and Hartford I do give a cheer. It is uniquely well written.) If it's a serious story then be prepared for some mildly adverse comments if things seem odd or improbable, but so what.

Yes the quality will vary, but if we are just doing it for fun then what does it matter. There is already lots of variability if you look over the pages: from publishable to {Country}wank to just above comic book, and with some sci-fi thrown in.

Earlier Board Hosts did not even show "Views" so authors had no idea if any of their stuff was even being read at all.  Thus, the current and immediately previous Hosts helped some.

Nonetheless, reader comments remain by far the greatest value as both feedback and interest indication.  All I can say is that the best way to understand this and appreciate it is to put a bunch of time into writing, post stuff, and wait.

Even though I gave up posting here, I would tell Bob not to give up the ship.
