It would take a nuclear tipped cruise missile to take out an Iowa I think. And it would be a cheap trade. In 1985, IIRC, New Jersey and Missouri were parked on opposites of the dock at LBNSY. Quite a sight! (I had to go and see the plaque.) The ships are armored against an enemy that no longer exists. They are also not armored against the most deadly of the new weapons. You can spread 35,000 tons out amongst several modern ships and separate them enough that a single cruise missile would only take out one. If the CIWS and the like do their jobs there might not be any losses. But if the systems fail we'd lose a lot of material and a few thousand (or there abouts) sailors from one leaker.
