No, not the Delhi class destroyer, but the Fiji class cruiser..

Few pics seem to exist of Mysore, the best from the web being.. Mysore in grey.gif Looking very Soviet in dark grey..undated.

Mysore March 1961.jpg Dated to March 1961..

I found these pics, possibly snapped at the same time, of Centaur and Belfast off Palu Langkawi at the conclusion of "JET" in Feb 1962. The second pic shows Centaur with Vikrant, but is that cruiser possibly Mysore? (off Vikrants starboard quarter?)

tumblr_n7vizwIRBJ1qdbe12o1_640.jpg Vikrant at Palu Langkawi 1962.jpg As the carrier/cruiser combo was the standard during this period I'd have thought the Indians would have made more of it.

Cheers

Sea Hawk launch plus Mysore.jpg Bingo! Sea Hawk launch from Vikrant with Mysore as plane guard? Undated, from this site:

And a bit grainy, but Vikrant and Mysore together on exercise with other Commonwealth warships on "JET 64"

Can anyone advise when the Indian Navy started with the darker grey paint?

Ooh- nice potential "what if" going on here between Mysore and Irian? A13%20Mysore%20Andamans%201963%20%20Copy.JPG
"After our debacle in the Indo-China war of October-November 1962 some of our neighbours got rather resurgent and noisy. Indonesia announced that the Andaman & Nicobar islands belonged to them being a part of the same geographical chain as Sumatra and Java. Their claim was of course supported by our neighbor to the West and surprisingly by Turkey. Many may not know that Turkey actively supported Pakistan with material and spares in both 1965 and 1971. In early 1963 the Indian Navy dispatched a few ships to park themselves off the Andamans, conduct naval exercises in those waters and show the flag"

Thank you for sharing these photographs. It was indeed a pity that the Mysore could not lead the 3rd attack on Pakistan in the 1971 War. In that attack it was planned that she would close in on Gwadar and fire a few 6" shells at that (then) minor harbour. Naturally this was in reply to the raid on Dwarka that the Pakistani's had done in 1965, when PNS Babur had shelled Dwarka with her 5.25" guns
